Swapmagic 3.8 doesnt work...will a modchip work?

Ok I just invested in this damn Swapmagic 3.8 and it worked for a day and then quite on me. Original DVDs load no problem but anything on any dvd-r (Verbatim Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, non work) Ive thrown at it just wont load anymore. If you want to read that whole story its in another thread here...

So my question is. Im willing to bet that its my laser thats having a hard time reading anything other than an original DVD-Rom. If I buy a mod chip will this solve the laser issue with DVD-rs?

would common sense not tell you the answer to that??? if the laser is not functioning correctly, a chip isn't going to solve anything. a cleaning might help if not then maybe an adjustment but a chip isn't gonna.

Look at the - Games stuttering and skipping or just not booting up at all?
