Controller not working?

I got an old dualshock 2 controller from my friend (probably from v5-11 set), anyway i tried it as second controller for my slim v14 ps2 and it's not working. The red light middle of R3 and L3 goes on, but buttons are working. As i tried the controller with Tony Hawks American Wasteland then the menu went crazy, it scrolled through every object in menu. When i unpluged the old controller, then the game was ok. I also disassemblied the controller and tried to figre out if anything was wrong or not- couldn't figure it out.

Has anybody had the same problem? Any idea of repearing it?
