I've been looking around alot of stores near me in Toronto, and have only found 2 that seem to carry Taiyo Yuden at all, and those were -R 8x.

Does anyone know of a store in Canada that carries the DVD+R Taiyo Yuden media, preferably 16x. I'd prefer a store in the GTA that I could go to in person, but feel free to recommend online stores as well, provided the shipping costs are allright.

Dinobot.....Have you tried Blankmedia.ca? They're in Kitchener. I think they might be listed under Bits N Pcs Computer. They carry a great assortment of Ty's and Verbs and others. I've ordered Silver printables and silver lacquer from them and it took only a week to get to N.S.(which is pretty good.) You should see the results with the silver printables and my Epson R340!
Next order will be white hub printable CD-R's and DVD's. Super stuff!

I've checked out the site, and you're right, they stock alot of good stuff. Can regular Sharpie markers be used on the label side of those silver lacquer discs, though? I notice they're good for thermal printing but my printer, an Epson R320, is pretty much the same as yours (with a slightly smaller LCD, I think) and can only do the inkjet printable discs.

Here's some possibly good news for anyone interested, as well. I went to the blankmedia.ca site, and after reviewing their inventory a bit I e-mailed asking them about the possibility of them getting the 16x +R Taiyo Yuden DVD media. Their response:

They are being released next week. We should have them shortly
thereafter.

I'm actually looking for those TY DVD-R 8x....what where the 2 stores in the GTA that you found them in?
P.S. I do have some 12 packs of Fujifilm DVD-R 8x (from Future Shop) that came in individual cases that seem to work pretty good. They say they are made in Japan. I have heard that these are possibly made by TY. How can I know for sure?

Thanks to all...

Hello greg97 I read your message in this forum you said that you would like to know how to tell if you have real Taiyo Yuden Discs
you will need this program at this web address and one installed find when it tell you the Media ID and that will tell you what you have.

Since originally posting, I think one of the stores I mentioned might actually only have fake TY discs, as they say "made in taiwan".

However, the other store is called Filtech Computers, and they seem to have pretty good prices, if -R is what you're looking for. They're on the East side of Spadina, maybe 5-10 meters South of the Spadina/College intersection.

Thanks for the response, however the message from Sentagram didn't
include the download sites for the programs mentioned.

Thanks in advance, Greg

To be honest, I've found that the best way to get the best quality TY +R media is to go with Sony +R made in Japan media. They code out to YUDEN000 T02. I can stretch these suckers all the way to about 4.5GB with no noticable flaws on the disc quality scan.

Although you'll get the brand name TY's from places like blankmedia.ca, I don't find you'll get the deals like you can with the Sony media. Keep an eye on the flyers from futureshop and some of the stores downtown TO (like factorydirect.ca). And if you're not close to TO then bring the flyers into a place like walmart to get a price match. (Walmart's good for that) Just make sure to get the made in Japan stuff and you're good to go.

Sorry Sentagram, I should have mentioned that I use Mac, and that the dvdinfopro.com program only works for PCs...does anyone know of a similar program that works for Macs? Thanks

DVD Media Inspector will do the job for Macs. You can get it on versiontracker.com (I think...otherwise, just get googling).
