i knocked off a small switch on the motherboard next to the top center screw while trying to install a piece of the "magic switch" i didn't even need (dopey...) is there any way to reattach that switch? it was a small black cover with a switch and a spring on the inside. i have trouble believing that my disc won't spin now because of this little part, but that's what's happening right now. ANY help would be appreciated. otherwise, i may have to buy a used ps2 with a bad laser and just swap em. THANKS!
In order to fix that switch, what you can do is solder the points with 1 wire on the motherboard, it will act as direct circuit, there will no longer be any switch functionality, take a pic of the broken switch and post it and i will point out what to do, im asuming that you are talking about the switch that you were meant to cover with the swap magic piece at the back of the motherboard.
Ok, if you have it back in place, did u turn the ps2 on to see if the disk spins now, i doubt that it will, what you need to do is remove the bit from the switch again, and at the bottom of the switch inside, you will see 2 metal contacts u need to solder these 2 together using a wire.
Either that or there was a metal piece on it, but i can assure u 100% that if you connect those 2 contacts together it will work, a few other people on the forum had the same problem and i told them to solve it the same way, works all the time, its just a switch, connect/disconnect = 0/1.
So thats all you need to do, and it should start working when you solder the two contacts you dont need to put anything in the switch, just leave it as it is, it doesnt need that swap magic piece.
just so i don't screw this up worse...i can just use a wire and solder the two contact points from the top or do i need to remove the mobo and directly connect the two points from the bottom?
