having a problem with King Kong

used DVD Decrypter for first time..then tried DVD-RB for first time..
didn't get my move recoded...gave ERROR Message Invalid Video_TS.IFO and Aborted the process. I went back and can play the VTS files with Nero Showtime but the Video_TS.IFO files are empty 0 kbs. None of the other programs Nero Recode, DVD Shrink, DVDFab will work either. I don't think DVD Decrypter copied all the necesssary files...why not? Guess, I should have just stuck with DVD Shrink. Decrypter does indeed rip this disc flawlessly. Perhaps your drive is responsible for your problems, or some other system configuration. It's not DVD Decrypter though.

There is something wrong with your log on this movie, I did it with RB and it came out flawless. If you compare the two logs you will see there is definite differences in the beginning.

Thanks for the log for comparison.

mine reads: Processed 5,758 frames.
clearly I didn't have enough "Movie" to rebuild. Problem is, I don't have the movie in my posession to re-rip, left it at home, I drive a truck. So, why didn't DVD Decrypter write the whole movie to my hard drive folder?

Anything from a flaw in the press to a greasy fingerprint on the disc surface can cause a read problem. Usually the first thing a person should do with their project is compare the size of the original source to the ripped source to be used. Inspecting file sizes also gives a rough idea of how much compression is going to take place. Also, check the output to make sure the output size was correct immediately following the backup.
As for methods of doing King Kong, Shrink will do it alone (just to show how easily it decrypts). I suspect DVDFab will rip it for use with RB. DVD Decrypter should have given you a complete rip. Obviously something appears to have gone wrong with the rip.
As for myself, I prefer using AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter with preferred slysoft settings to get my cleaned source. On occasion I've had to process for compliance with some difficult copyright protections and earlier versions of the AnyDVD software. King Kong was so easy though, I just ripped it and run the entire folder through RB for the backup.

PREPARE/ENCODE/REBUILD completed in 6 min.
That log was off from beginning to end. That final time should have been a giveaway. 6 minutes for the entire backup when it takes nearly 50-60 minutes for a single pass with CCE using a good PC. The new dual core processors are faster, but nothing is going to get close to 6 minutes for a full length movie. The full rip would have taken longer than that.

yep..switched to THE GRUDGE and tried again...6 hrs to Prepare/encode/rebuild. Now I'm wondering which is better- DVD Decrypter or DVDFab Decrypter? Have both on HD and need to clear some space which one just stay?

With AnyDVD like I use, I'd suggest DVD Decrypter. AnyDVD by itself is a better selection than DVDFab Decrypter, but I realize some prefer free over the niceties of a retail app. But if you need to save that small amount of space, then DVDFab Decrypter is more up to date and DVD Decrypter is no longer supported, which means no needed updates for new copyright protections. DVDD is already out of date for several releases. These apps are insignificant in size when compared to just one DVD folder.

DVD Decrypter is still alive and kicking thanks to PgcEdit & The PSL Plug-in
As a standalone decryption tool DVDD is obsolete. No one said it wasn't still a usefull tool. I use it all the time with AnyDVD. It doesn't decrypt some of the new releases; at least not on its own. The PSL2 method incorporates several apps to accomplish the decryption process. Just a quick run through; DVDD has to rip the source to find the bad sections and then rerip using the PSL2 as a guide after using the PgcEdit and then process for compliance with either FixVTS or VobBlanker. DVDD is part of an editing process incorporating the other software to acquire the cleaned source. Hardly sounds like the easy one click method from when it was supported and programed to process encryption and copyright protections by itself. The PSL2 method is good if one wants to take the more time consuming freeware route, but DVDFab Decrypter also free, and retail apps make the task easier. I have to give the PSL2 system its due though, it will work when some software is still waiting to be updated.
Also, Headborg was wanting to cut back on the number of apps needed.

True. IFOEdit is another good one. FixVTS is easy for doing compliance processing, but VobBlanker has more options. I have them all; but I have plenty of storage and work space on my drives. With limited resources, some people feel the need to save all the free space they can.
