I was using cdloader to play a backup and left my pstwo on for a second and when i came back it was spinning the cd and froze
after restarting it i noticed it wouldn't spin cd's
then i opened it and there was this little chip under cd drives motor that smelled burnt

it turns on fine and goes to the memory card and everything but it won't spin cd's
i have playedbackups like this hundreds of times but now it won't work

can someone tell me what i can do

PS I DON'T USE A MODCHIP

currently have these consoles

Post a pic of the part that you think is burnt, its probably a blown fuse, and if you were using cd loader, did u have anything on the switched that make the ps2 think the lid is closed, if u did it could be the switch was damaged, give me more information and i will tell you how to sought the problem out.

I dont have my ps2 open right now, so i cant check that pcb out, as far as i can remember, there was no chip on that board, it just connects the wires upto the motor, but i will have to check, when you rotate the motor does it rotate smoothly or is it there like crackling noises when your rotating it, and secondly have to checked all the fuses on the motherboard, if not i think you should get a multi meter and check all the fuses. The diagram link it below, once you have checked the fuses let me know, and are they and chips on that PCB where the motor is?

I took a more closer look at your picture, and the switch at the back of the motherboard looks like its broken or something, take a close pic of it and post it, your problem probably lies there, that switch needs to work, when you close the lid that switch tells the ps2 the lids closed it it powers up the motor circuit, without it you cant do anything.
