Thought I would try my first thread :) I was a lurker here for the last month, while I read up on the site and how to mod.
I follow the instructions here:
http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/fliptop-v12/pag...
Upon getting to step 3, I am unable to pull the cover off after I raise the left side of the cover about 5 inches from the base. The right side won't unhook, come off, whatever it's supposed to do :) It feels like it is secured down.
Is there a clasp there that needs to be undone? Do I need to use more force? Is there something blatantly obvious that I am missing?
Thanks for the help!

i have never taken apart a slimline myself. But i am sure there are grooves in the back somewhere that keep it in place.
Have you tried carefully wiggling it side to side to see if it loosens?
the screws should be the only real thing holding the case cover on.

Thanks for the help :) I tried the wiggle, but it still won't come off. I'll try seeing if I can take the plastic screw covers off also. I took off only the rubbery ones so far.
~Will update as I find out more :P Dunno if others have probs with this model. O.o Hope my findings help others, cuz it's annoying as hell ;)
-EDIT-
I just looked at the base.. other than the 6 empty screw holes, there are only 2 other rubber pads at the base. What plastic screw covers are you talking about?

Well, here's the latest:
When I apply enough pressure to try and "pull" the right side of the case off, I see the mainboard on the inside shifting a slight bit with the strain. I can only assume there's something on the inside latched in, that I can't see or shake apart.
I've never seen the inside of a PS2 Slim except for the pics online, which make it look dirt easy - I doubt I need to be using so much pressure on it.... Blah........
Help! :)

there are Rubber covers, then the other squares are like PLASTIC CLICK ON SCREW COVERS, you CAN'T remove them manually, use a FLAT SCREWDRIVER and >CLICK< they come out!
and I opened mine because of DRE.

Well yes, not removing all of the screws can be a problem when opening it. But since he provided a tutorial that clearly showed where the screws were i assumed that he had removed the ones under both the plastic and rubber pads.
If not then it of course will not open up.

Heh, yeah. There's 6 screws. I have removed all of them. The problem stems from the right side of the case not wanting to come off.
Oh well, I'll sit on it for a while. hell, now I have a fliptop sitting around collecting dust. GG $20. That's like.. a 10 piece KFC meal :(

i had the same exact problem that you had but i forgot exactly what i did to take it off... but eventually it came off... considering that you DID take out all the screws properly, what i think you have to do is continue to try to wiggle it or slide it in the direction that is loose already and try to pull it out, try not to break it, but use some force while wiggling and pulling on it...

Thanks all :) Managed to get it off, turns out that under the right side of the cover, there's a small clasp that needs to be wiggled out. Appreciate the help :)
Now that I've got it installed, the CD won't spin heh. Does that mean I need to loosen the 6 screws on the bottom, or should it be the 2 screws that connect the flip-top? Whee, fun :)

Bleh, tried a couple times again this weekend - CD still won't spin with the game loaded while Flip-Top is installed, on my system. Tried loosening screws, no luck. Any tips? About to ebay my SM 3.6 + Flip top if I can't figure this out, and slap myself for wasting 10+ hours :(
