Just letting everyone know what I heard today from my computer teckie, with the new release of the blu-ray format disc, comes troubles for backing up movies.
He tells me that most of the programs that we currently use such as Shrink, DVD decrypter, Anydvd etc. will need a complete overhaul just to be able to read the disc, yet alone rip it.
Also, with the extra space on the blu-ray disc, comes more elaborate, and more sophisticated copy protection programs.
Looks like at least in the short term, the movie makers will win the battle.
Just thought I'd share this info with you.

Regardless of what kind(s) of protections, if it can be "encrypted", then it can be "decrypted". Everything needs to have "balance" (i.e. fire & water, cold & hot, etc.)
On the other hand, I could careless about Blu-ray and HD-DVD, as of now. As long as "Yuden Co. Ltd., MCC/MKM and Hitachi" exist -- furthermore, as long as my 55" Widescreen SONY HDTV with Hi-Scan 1080i and Progressive Scan stands strong, I won't be buying Blu-ray and HD-DVD anytime soon.

blue-ray may be excellent, but whatever protection they put on, i know it will be broken. it´s just matter of time.
like first dvds. they said it was the ultimate protection, but it was broken in 244 lines of code. few more or less.
and there will always be nice smart people who will programe freewares in that area. it´s just matter of time.
i think so.
