Hi guys/ladies
my xbox will only load the original dashboard i think one of the games may have caused this.
I have tried installing a new dashboard with evolution x also i have tryed autoinstaller and slayers 2.6 but each time the original dash board comes on.
The man in the computer shop says he will put the dash on for £35 which i think is daylight robbery.
He says that because it is a older box i need an old setup disc because the files are in a different place is this true.
i have a old xbox i think it is a version 1 it is from hungary.

Nah..He's just after your money..Look for a modern installer disk around the torrents...Slayers should work..just install from the menu to put evox on C:\...and only evox..You are hardware modded? Don't use slayers with a softmod!!!WARNING!!!...using slayers with a softmod xbox can and usually DOES result in a doorstop!!WARNING!!

First of all their could be a number of reason why you cant install the dashboard of your choice, you could have,

1. custom bios that boots only a specific named xbe file
2. Bios Boots dashboard from E,F or G drive instead of the usual default C drive

What you could do is get a copy of boxplorer
Burn it to a Dvd and load it up
use it to view your xbox drive and then post back here a list of all the files that end in .xbe on the root of your C,E,F and maybe G drive if you have one
Then i'll tell you what to do next ?

Perhaps this will help..

If you're pretty content with EvoX, and you'd rather stick with that as your main dash, then you can set UnleashX to Quicklaunch. Open the X3 bios (if it doesnt automatically show up on boot, hold the white button), go to X3 Config Live > Quicklaunch, and set the drive to C, and the path to unleashx.xbe. Now, when you start up your xbox, hold the right trigger, and UnleashX loads instead of EvoX.
That drive layout is either for a chip or a tsop flash..that's the guide for the xecuter3..

@sharky..why did you advise to use Boxplorer..unleashx is much better for this mission...you can edit the evox ini file direct and launch apps with it..question...have you ever seen a bios that doesn't boot evox?

I think this is some kind of hacked ms dash otherwise how is it loading boxplorer?

What is going on is the evox.ini needs editing..I'll leave you to it...

@ fimbo..don't delete any files on C:\..most certainly don't delete any that have xbox or xo in the name or the audio or fonts folders, that's what it's booting from now and deleting any of those will get you in big trouble (error 15/16)....have a look in the E:\ apps folder and report what you find in there..

The reason why I said use boxplorer was because fimbo1975 has made numerous posts and started numerous threads on the same topic
on different forums all over the web
he struggled to get numerous applications to work on his xbox including media centre, because he does not know how to use it which as you know has it's own file explorer
I suggested boxplorer because unlike unleash x its sole purpose is to be a file explorer.

If you would have read the thread properly it tells you that no matter how many times he install different dashboards it still boots to the original microsoft xbox one, nothing about booting to evox.
thats what he is aiming to achieve !

In all honesty no I have not seen a bios that doesn't boot evox.
However I have seen plenty of bioses that boot xboxdash.xbe first and evoxdash.xbe after that.

Thankyou for your point of view though

Sorry about that, back to the problem in hand fimbo.

On the C drive scroll down to the file evoxdash.xbe until it is highlighted and press the A button

Does this load the evox dashboard ?

Switch of the xbox and back on again,
boot boxplorer
on the C drive scroll down to xboxdash.xbe and press the A button
does this load the original green dashboard ?

Let me now the answers ?

Just a quickie...what mod is he actually running...could it be a duox?

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=427711

or maybe an applex (clone same switching)

http://www.apple-chip.com/index/applex_vii.html

operating instructions

are under the v1.x links on the left

That may help finally solve this..lol

From what i can make out he doesn't actually know, as he has taken apart the xbox and can't see any modchip at all.
he has installed slayers more than once, with no booting problems afterwards which would indicate that he isn't using any sort of soft mod.

My educated guess is that he has a flashed tsop, which has a custom bios on it which boots to xboxdash.xbe before it boots evoxdash.xbe
thats why he is finding it difficult to change the dashboard with slayers or any other auto installer.

When evox is loaded look for the bios version details...tsop flash always has one..or complex tools should have a utility..bios check that should give all the info..

tsop stuff..for sharky

Sorry, what do you mean it loads up the evolutionx dvd again
do you mean that it loads exactly the same dashboard
from both
xboxdash.xbe and evoxdash.xbe?

OK switch off the xbox don't leave any discs in the drive
now switch the xbox back on again is this the same screen that you see when you select xboxdash.xbe ?

Also Describe what the screen looks like when you first switch the xbox on?

when i choose evoxdash.xbe it loads a green slayer evox dashboard which i install recently but couldnt get it to work i would love to boot up from this.
if i choose xboxdash.xbe it reboots the system and loads the dvd again and which is my blue evolution x which has boxplorer on it.
