They are (checking)going to end up being the 8x ones.
I am thinking about picking up a pack at my local BB. I am currently burning through the 25 pack of 16x verbs I bought when I got my newest puter (over a year ago) and out of all 25 (I have 2 left)

I have only had one coaser. I think it was from a bad .cue file but I'm not sure. Here is a NeroTest thingy on them..

It's almost worth paying .32 per disc and buying them locally rather than paying .27 per disc after rebate from Newegg.com for two stacks of 50... For only five cents difference, it's nice to not have to wait on a rebate check...

(For those interested, until the 30th of April, you can get a $25 rebate on 2 stacks of 50 8x Verbatim DVD+Rs, which are currently selling for $26/stack, free 3 day shipping.)

Also, might want to check out office depot. They are selling stacks of 50 + or - R's for 12.99

They are the Office Depot house brand, and media type out to
Ritek P16

Looking for information on them now, but so far I'v done 4 burns on them at 8x(1) 12x(1) and 16x(2) and haven't had any problems.
That doesn't say anything for the longevity of the media...

Yes I know any sample size under 1000 is kind of hokey, but we will see what happens..

Here is a thread with some not-so-good scans of RitekP16 media ...
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/328711
It looks as though the RitekP16 media leaves something to be desired

16x verbs are the only speed carried by my local stores.

This is 3 weeks in a row for Staple's sony sale. These are all 16x speed-in my locale, and are screwy on my benqs. No coasters, just takes a while for the burn to kick in.

Best Buys verbs would be the best sale to get to.

Edit:
Storm1234: Staple's has 100 pk of slim cases for $14.94,or you could get the 50 pk for that same price, LOL

Fortunately or not all my verbatims are 8x regardless of - or + format retail or generic ! so I'm good I suppose ? intersting on the 16x verb's & the benq are you doing them at 16x or 8X ? and does the weirdness occur only at one speed or both? just wondering itty bitty booger guy! LOL! Hapy burning !

What do you mean by 'just takes a while for the burn to kick in'? Do you mean that you don't hit 16x until you're a good ways into the burn?

does it really matter that much if the dvds are 8x or 16x? they still are at $14.99 for a 50 pack?

I picked up 1 spindle of the taiwanese SonyD21.No trouble with the 3 spindles of japanese SonyD21.

First using my original benq 1620/set burn speed at 8x and that backup failed during the lead-in phase. No actual burn occured-I burned that disc in my 1650.

I slapped another in the 1620,set burn speed at 4x and when lead-in phase started, there was a minute or 2 pause, before she finally started burning.I never seen that before.

My 1650 had no trouble,I just set the burn speed to 4x to be sure. I will avoid taiwanese sony +1x-16x. A few scans will help see how much worse they are compared to the japanese SonyD21's.

thelox714: Definitely try to find the japanese spindles of +1x-8x first. The taiwanese are pretty decent in that speed. If 16x only, like all the stores in my locale, then get the Japanese spindles. The taiwanese may be ok,but for $15 a spindle,I'd rather get Verbatim +16x at best buy if I needed media.

That's weird with thos Sonys and your 1620 ... sounds like a firmware issue, but I'm pretty sure that you've already gotten the latest for your drives ...

Don't know if you'd call it a sale but managed to find some MIJ Sony 8X DVD+R's at A local Biglots store - Well I found two 50Ct. Spindles actually ! & bought both @ $ 15.99 ea. that's about $1.00 more than the Bigname retailers but still works out to about .32 cents each !! not bad for MIJ (Taiyo/sony;s ) and Yes they have the Octagonal spacers - The Octagon - Sakura !!!!! LOL! Happy burning !
