Hello! I'm afraid I don't have a solution for you, I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. I have that same problem. Some work, others don't. Sometimes DVD Decrypter or Slysoft works, but not always. I'm having trouble with "The Core" at the moment, so I will watch this forum with interest!

CRC error means that your drive is unable to read the disc clean the disc if that does not help check to see if there is a update for the firmware for your drive you will need the model number of your drive
go to Firmware page.com to get the update

the disc is about as clean as its going to get, and i believe i have the latest firmware for my drive. Ive been able to copy movies that are far more scratched that this, this only really has a small scratch on it, but shouldnt be a problem.

on another note

i have a movie that will get 95-98 percent done analyzing, it just stops after the movie is over and the credits are rolling...anyway to bypass this and be able to start encoding?

DVDShrink cant do it all alone with newer protections.
Those errors are the same as with newer films it cannot read.
Sometimes authoring setup to only main movie bypasses this, perhaps the bad spot is in the extras or trailers. Not always. It is hit or miss with Shrink and new releases unless you do other things like VOBBlanker or use ANYDVD.

Try ripping the movie to your harddrive first with DVDFab decrypter....it is free and available here:

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

After ripping, run these file through Shrink....should correct the problems...you may need to run these files through VOBblanker, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there, first try ripping with Fab then running through Shrink...let me know how it turns out ;)

I had simular problems with xxx the next level and done the below.
Try reauthoring the dvd by dragging the main movie file from the dvd into the dvd tree. Then if you play it in a dvd player it will play straight into the movie.

this error can refer to a few things like a scratched or dirty disc, or poor media that you are using to back up your movie to.Its not uncommon for the actual disc to have a damaged VOB file inserted to make it harder to copy. You might try using isobuster to see if you can recover the disc to your hard drive and then if you achieve that then burn it back to another disc

You mention it has a scratch well even the tiniest can be an issue, may be another solution is to take it down to your local video library and see if there equipment can regrind the disc so the scratch is gone. They have to do thousands of discs so it stands to reason that there cleaning equipment should be able to get your scratch out.

Hi! I've managed to copy just the movie, no extras, with DVD Shrink as pcaddict suggested. Perhaps it is a "dirty disk" problem, since I've copied others with almost no problems. I've had to use DVD Decrypter to copy a file to my hard drive, then burn from the image. I'm new at this! I hope I've helped in a small way; and I appreciate the help I've gotten!

well i tried the ripping to the hdd with defabdecrypter but id didnt get complete. got to vs3 or something like that. I figure its the small scratch, its not 2 big of a deal as the original burned copy that is mine plays fine, just that my friend is SOL. Never knew there were ways out "grinding" out the scratches. As for the media i use, nothing but verbatims so i dont think thats a problem.

I had that problem also. Give that a try. I know that I tried for some time to get all the features, and couldn't. Finally I re-authored with DVD Shrink, and copied just the movie, and that worked just fine. I'm using SlySoft for decryption.

With scratches....I've had a great deal of success with those Game Dr. or those Scratch Dr. (same product, different names). The DVD doesn't look too good after the final process....but it has always corrected my scratched discs.

I've had this before with DVD Shrink as well. DVD Decrypter is a lot of help as people before have said. I started off with DVD Shrink, worked good for months, until I ran in to a DVD with good copy protection to give those Cyclic redundency errors. I think this first happened to me on that movie 'Hitch'. Then I used DVD Decrypter and it worked fine but eventually I ran into a problem where even Decrypter and Shrink would still get errors and I think that was the movie 'Stealth'. Anything Sony / Columbia Pictures can be tough. Now I use the updated version of AnyDVD with Shrink or CloneDVD2 and it works fine with anything. You may want to consider AnyDVD. And while you're at it, CloneDVD2 is not a bad idea too.

I've got AnyDVD, and still had trouble with "The Core". Maybe it's just too "schlocky" B-grade! Works well until about 50% encoded, then quits. The errors start. I ignore them for a time, but eventually it bogs down (I've gotten up to 900 retrys).

a few people seem to be loosing there way on this thread.
lets take it from the top:

@ wpurcell: well if you dont have a solution why post at all

@ Deadrum33: he says he has a crc error shrink aint going to help him

@ ebega & pcaddict: if he cant read the disc he's not going to be able to reauthor is he

and last but not least; AnyDVD is a tool to assist you in bypassing encryptions inherent in most commercial made dvds. Its not going to help you recover data from a scratched or dirty disc or from dud media.

@andmerr

I never suggested he reauthor, just a different method of ripping...I was under the assumption that not all CRC errors were caused by a scratched disc or bad press, but could in fact be caused certain types of encryptions. If however this is not the case and the error was in fact caused by a scratch, you might also notice my suggestion to fix a scratched disc :)
