I am new at backing up dvd's. I am currently using dvd x-copy and I have a brand new burner. It is taking a long time to back up my dvd's. I need some help on this subject, I dont know if it is the x-copy or I am doing something wrong.
did you just recently buy dvd x copy? If you did I recommend you immediately return (if they let you) or try to exchange it for a new one and sell it on ebay or something. I brought dvd x copy when it was out for about $100 and it's the worst program i think i've used (or at least second to AOL). DVD x copy is outdated and gives you an annoying warning at the begining of all your dvd's. There's several better programs out there that are cheaper or free.
As for time, it depends on your system. Mines a 3.2 GHz intel with HT overclocked to 3.8 with a sony dvd burner; right now it takes me about 25 minutes to rip a dvd thats about 8gb and encode it down to the size of a DVD5 (this is the equilvalent of when dvd x copy asks you to swap your dvd with a blank disc) and about 10 minutes to 15 minutes to burn and verify (the equivalent of when you insert the blank dvd and the time it says its done but I'm not sure if dvd x copy verifies the disc to make sure its not corrupt).
In it's defense, back in the day, x-copy had some cool features. I now use vobblanker or other apps to accomplish those tasks, because as mentioned, x-copy is outdated, and not even that good when it wasn't.
Get something like fabdecrypter and DVD Shrink, or since you're a newb, maybe the whole AnyDVD scene is the way to go.
Basically the idea behind AnyDVD is simplicity. It runs all the time, and you should be able to back up your discs with most programs without extra work. I'd suggest using DVD Shrink though over x-copy. It's outdated in some respects as well, but it's just a better program.
I had X platinum. That was terrible. Yeah, all you do is insert the disc and copy but that's trash. With all the free programs, you can do so much more.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie
yea I recommend DVD Shrink too. I still really like DVD decyrpter because it copies ps2 games too (only works if the movie you want to get is around 4.34gbs if you want to back up using dvd5's) I've tried DVDClone2 but didn't think it's worth it over DVD Shrink.
