Upgrade questions for DV capture/editing

I'm turning my Dell Demension 4300s into a editing machine but am not sure what I need to upgrade to edit my mini DV videos.

Here are the basics of what I got:
Windows XP Home edition service pack 2
Pentium{R} 4 CPU 1.40GHz
640 MB of RAM
Only 2 pci ports. One will be for my firewire, the other for my ethernet, will that be enough???

I have just won off ebay: a firewire card, 160MB external (firewire) hard drive, and Sony Vegas (I just want to get used to it, then upgrade to Vegas 6).

My main question is: Is my processor speed (1.40GHz) good enough? What's the costs of upgrade? Also, do I need a graphics/video card? My computer is 4 years old so I think it has the basics.
