OK...Heres the scoop!

I am currently using DVD shrink and taking out all the extra and backing up just the main movie track. The problem is that the quality is bad and they always skip. I can't even come close to 100% and when i did w/ Hotel Rwanda it still skipped. I was using Memorex +R and I am really not sure if the problem is in the media. I would be happy if I could just get the main track w/o the extras but would be even happier if I could do a full backup with the menu options and all the extras.

Any suggestions on backing up just the main track w/o extras in order to improve quality?

Also, if I want to do an entire backup, menus, extras etc., do i need a double layer disc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Stan

Memorex do not have a great reputation around these forums - they are generally considered unreliable media. They appear to be part of your problem.

Shrink while a very good program is no longer updated but still works very well using AnyDVD running the background.

Nero Recode will do what Shrink does but does not rip.

You do not necessarily need a double layer disk to do a complete backup. In most cases they can be done on a single layer with acceptable quality.

stanmurph,
I suggest you get rid of that memorex dvd and replace something like
verbratim, taiyo yuden or maxell made in Japan doesent apply to verbratim. Set your burning speed at 4x and update your firmware for your dvdwriter. If you want somethings better try to purchase AnyDVD and CloneDVD from slysoft because they are great programmes especially AnyDVD update regularly.

All you have to do is just read the forums concerning DVD media. All the horror stories about Memorex can be found in there.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Yea i can vouch for the problems with Memorex i only had a few work out of about 30 or so i used. I just bought some Verbatim DVD-R's today and from all i've read i should be very happy with the results.
