I have bought the latest Verbatim 16x DVD-R disc in Hong Kong
The disc is made in Japan.

I ran a Nero Test on it:

Drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S
Firmware: YS0V
Disc: DVD-R (MCC 03RG20 )
Selected speed: Maximum
PI errors
Maximum: 277
Average: 62.76
Total: 930573
PI failures
Maximum: 3
Average: 0.25
Total: 2837
PO failures: n/a
Jitter: n/a
Scanning Statistics
Elapsed time: 5:13
Number of samples: 110850
Average scanning interval: 1.29 ECC
Glitches removed: 0

personally, I like to see:
