You should all know this is a slow process. It is a lot faster if you manage your games with your PS2 HDD plugged into your pc. If you don’t have this luxury, for example if you only own a notebook pc, using a network cable is a viable solution for you.
I got a quick list of some things that you will need.
BOOT METHOD
There are a few different choices as to boot method (modchip, mem-card exploit, swap trick, original disc), but I won't cover them here.
REQUIRED HARDWARE
Besides your ps2 with its hard drive and network adapter, you will need:
-A computer with a network card
-Crossover cable (you can use a patch cable if you have a hub or router)
A regular plain-Jane network cable will work fine. 10MBit Cat 5 will get a max of about 2MBit transfer rate to your ps2.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE
You will need the latest copy of hdldumb and hdlserv. Usually they come bundled together.
BOOTING…
First you need to run hdlserv on your PS2. Make sure that you have your network cable plugged into your pc and ps2 before running hdlserv or else it will not work. Hdlserv will assign your ps2 an IP address, usually 192.168.0.1.
TRANSFERING…
To begin transferring files, hdldumb needs to connect to your ps2. After running hdlserv on your ps2, it will display its IP address. Verify that hdldumb has the same IP address in its network field as your ps2 has on your screen. Once connected, hdldumb will display that the connection has been established, and you can begin transferring games.
Remember that the max you can transfer through this method is only 2mb/s. This is a snails pace compared to the transfer speeds of a directly connected HDD. Transfers of a directly connected HDD can reach speeds of over 30mb/s. You do the math. For a regular DVD-5 game, it will take you nearly 45 minutes through a network cable.
