from what i understand..
i can hookup my ordinary (compatible with ps2) HD to my computer, load up a couple iso/imgs on it, then attach it to my ps2 with my network adapter and then run hdloader and select the game?

the reason im thinking about doing this is because my laser is pretty much dead and wont read much anymore, and i was thinking that this method utilizes just the HD instead of the laser, am i right?

well yeah but in order for the ps2 to load up the harddrive it needs to read the hd loader/advance dvd disc.if your laser cant read than i dont know if it will work.i could be wrong but without the dvd disc it wont boot the hdd.

if your PS2 can read a PS1 game without a problem then you'd be able to load Hdloader from a Memory Card Exploit. But in order to do a MC Exploit you'll need some sort of Mod (swapmagic or old ver of gameshark) in order to get the Exploit on on Memory card...

You can find all the software you'll need at this site

just spend the money and get your laser fixed, it would be cheaper than a HDD.
Although having an HDD is a great thing for getting games to run with less glitches and faster load times. Not all games will work on the HDD.

If you get serious about one then i suggest getting a DMS4 Pro mod chip installed as it has many features geared towards using the HDD with a PS2, and has better game compatibility than HD Loader, and always will due to the fact that they release free flash upgrades for the chip about 1-2 times a year with better features and game compatibility

about $50 or so to get the laser replaced.
if you do decide to go the hard drive route just do your research first and make sure you get one that is compatible.

Do you have a Hard Drive?
Will your PS2 Still boot a Playstation 1 Game?

If you could get someone to put the HDLoader Exploit onto a MC for you then you maybe ok...
by the time you Spend the $ on the laser and pay someone to install it correctly then you might as well spend the $ and buy a used Fat PS2

but if you can get the exploit and HD working it will give you some time before the laser finally decides to bite the dust fully...
