Need Help Installing Toshiba DVD-R Drive

I just got a new Toshiba SD-R5002 DVD-R Drive and when I install it in my computer it doesnt register it. It is set up as a slave drive and my dvd-rom is set as master. The weird thing is, it does register it if i put the burner as the master drive and my dvd-rom as a slave, and if i leave it like that my burning program (nero) reads it as a dvd-rom and not a burner.
I was wondering if anyone else had problem...any help would be very helpfull
