How do I burn a backup DVD which is over 2 hours, like King Kong and Lord Of The Rings? I only have blank DVD+Rs that hold 2 hours of recording. I know how to burn DVDs under 2 hours, but how do you burn DVDs over 2 hours? Thanx

You would need a compression program such as DVD Shrink or Nero Recode. Before using one of these programs you would have to Decrypt the file using a program such as DVD Fab Decrypter.

Note-You will get better quality using DVD Shrink if you only burn the movie itself by reauthoring.
For guides on how to do this, just use your friendly search bar!

You can obtain DVDShrink Free at http://mrbass.org/dvdshrink

There is a guide in my signature for using it in conjunction with DVDdecrypter.

Great programs. I recommend them.

You can use DVD Shrink to compress your movie to fit, however these are large movies and you will need to use deep analysis in Shrink with quality enhancements. You can get the sw here

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

Here is a good guide on how to use Shrink

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=63fd9ea0d669cdf5...

And a guide on using DVDFab Decrypter and Shrink along with DVD Decrypter if you do not have any burning program, such as Nero

I have DVD Shrink and a DVD Decrypter. So the only thing i need to do is use DVD Shrink and set it to deep analysis and then a 3 hour movie(King Kong) will be burned on my DVD blank which holds 120 min?

You can do the movie using Shrink, the deep analysis and quality enhancements will help if the movie is highly compressed. KK will have a compression of about 51% and that is the movie only and just the 5.1 sound. If you want the best playback quality then use the deep analysis and the Max Smooth AEC. This will take sometime to encode depending on your computer specs.

Just FYI, the length of the movie is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is how much data you can fit onto a DVD. That's about 4475MB, so as long as your video file doesn't exceed that size it can be two, three, six, eight hours long.

I have just backed up my copy of King Kong using Dvd Fab Express and DVD Shrink by reauthoring and keeping just the movie. Also cut out the end credits and set the burning speed at 4x for a better quality backup.

New guy with question in regards to long movies: can you use a DL disc and not compress the movie? thereby keeping as close to possible original quality? Nelson

Yes you can use a dual layer for your backup and get the closest possible backup of the original. Best program is DVDDecrypter/ImgBurn in iso read mode and then open your MDS file and do iso write mode. Program and guide for Decrypter available here

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

You can also use CloneDVD if you have just do Clone DVD movie and then make sure you have DVD9 in you settings box on the lower left of the screen on the compilation page and then just backup. Clone also does a very good job with DL media backups

Thanks, I thought so but just wanted to verify. Bought 10 the other day as officemax is closing. Backed up King Kong but used DVDshrink not thinking. The next day it hit me I didn't need to use shrink. Nelson
