Hi
i have always use CD marker pens on my discs but the store i get them from no longer carries them so i use sharpe permenent marker instead.

i was told that a permenent marker will eventually "eat" into the disc & damage it.

does anyone know if this is true?

I do not believe this is so. I use a sharpe marker on all my DVDs, and they all still work.

I've used them for years as well. I believe that Sharpie has stated that while they don't warranty their use for discs, they have no knowledge of any problems.

I have CD's that are over five years old that were labeled with a Sharpie. No problems whatsoever. I still use Sharpies on all my CD's and DVD's.

Are you sure? The Sharpies I buy are called "CD/DVD Writers" right on their packaging (and on the marker itself)... so I'm pretty sure those ones must be guaranteed for use on discs; even if other models aren't.

Yeah Dinobot, I was speaking of the permanent kind that are reputed to eat away discs, not the actual CD/DVD markers they sell.

Jigen- Sharpie's Work ! inexpensive & easy to find ! if possibility of damaging your media with Sharpie's really worries you there's always Inkjet printers & inket printable media ! More expensive but if you want peace of mind with the sharpie issue that's an option ! myself I'm a sharpie kinda guy But to each his own Happy Worrying ! LOL! just kidding ! happy burning & enjoy Jigen

Below is my original post that Dinobot misinterpreted. I agree with you 100% about them being ok.
