Well i don't have a PSP yet, i'm planning to buy one this week and i'm looking for accesories that are goooood and i came accros this
http://www.darkplanets.co.uk/datel-4gb-harddrive.asp its a 4GB hard drive for the ps2, now in ebgames.com they got this at $200.00 but looking as how much the 1GB memory sticks are i'd say this is a very good price PLUS it comes with another battery that gives you twice the play time. So tell me guys what do you think? i'm hoping someone here owns it and gives me good and bad details about this item, and for those that don't own it give your opinions too.

I own one of those, it is a little slow, but all i had before was a 32 stick so its hard for me to notice the difference. The battery is cool as hell and it does add a whole lot of time to your PSP. Anyway, as far as putting movies and music on this hdd, then its fine. The video and audio occasionally "blink" during their play, but it hardly hinders the overall play of the device itself. If you have the money just wait for the 4gb, it'll be more expensive, but much better overall. But so far, I've had no problems with my 4g hdd. Thats my review.
Hey now.

do not wait for the 4 gb stick...get the 2 gb stick and no do not get the 4 gb hdd..the hdd adds weight (slightly) size (ruins fit for playgear pocket by logitech and I am assuming comfort in hands)
I say 2 gb because it is right over 1.8 gb (which is the max size of a umd) and because it is the cheapest good solution....as for backup iso's, compress them...movies compress them, songs compress them into atrac3 format, better than mp3, lets say on 64 kbps atrac3 u can have more songs in total than on 64 kbps mp3 (I've heard something like that)
All u will need for the songs is to get a atrac3 converter...
A mp4 converter
and some iso shrinker for psp
and u are all set and ok with 2 gb!!!
(the 4 gb hdd is not worth it!!!!)
neither is waiting for the 4 gb mem stick pro duo or duo...because it will be more expensive (I guess) than twice the price of the 2 gb...if not then still, why pay more for uneeded space...in the music area, people who like ipods love having a million songs in their pocket...well I think that atrac3 at 64kbps on psp will have alot of songs (1500, I am guessing) I do not think that ipod can play atrac3...sorry for getting off-topic but I am just trying to prove that 2 gb is enough....here's a tip from me that i have not done yet but am planning on doing for my quick leaves from home when I am in a rush...lets say u have to go fast and u want to transfer lets say 200 songs to ur psp, make a wireless connection from ur psp to ur comp and transfer songs wirelessly while getting ready then get right out the door, instead of having to go back in ur room, disconnect the cable and go (I am refering to lazy people like myself who do not want to go back to our rooms..)
P.S. Other than my off-topic talk, I hope that my writing will influence you to get a 2gb mem stick pro duo....DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY!!, REFURBISHED FROM A TRUSTED SOURCE LIKE BEST BUY IS BETTER THAN BUYING FAKES ON EBAY!!
If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

As of now, you can not access over 4GB of memory using the current firmwares. So someone will need to make a special program or modify the firmware to allow people to attach mini hard drives with a capacity higher than 4GB. People will also have to upgrade to use the new 8GB memory sticks which are coming soon.

I still think it would be better to have a 2 gb stick...if u want 4 gb or even 8 gb sticks....you will need like 2 years of patience for prices to become normal because in the start they will be insane and who knowns two 2 gb sticks might be cheaper than one 4 gb stick...(in the start only)
But then again, it is ur choice...given the consequences I have told u, only u can decide now wether u want to buy the datel 4 gb hdd or not...

I'd say go for a 2GB, its a while to wait for a 4GB stcik, and that harddrive is utter gash, so very ugly and slow from what I've heard.
Good luck for your boys tonight bombayboy, Villareal put us out of the CL this season, so get us some revenge for England!

The PSP thinks the hard disk is a memory stick. You plug the hard drive into the memory stick slot of your PSP and access the hard drive the same way you access the memory stick.

FW 3.0 is heavily rumoured by vg insiders to be the fw to allow this.
4gb Datel HDD + Battery X2
not only does the datel drive make it more bulkier but the since the battery is external you will feel it when it gets hot, especially if you are playing for extended periods.
However the bulkier may not bother you if you have big hands and would like a better grip.
If you have a 1.5 psp you will have even more problems with the hdd. A lot of 1.5 reviewers have said its pooor, and when you call customer service they will tell you to update your fw to relieve some of the issues you are having with the hdd.
Bottom line is, its your money
If you cant wait for the 4gb card and want space now, then get it. If you don't mind your hands being warm(will help in winter i guess) then get it.
My suggestion is right along with Piece + Sudds, which is wait for the 4gb.
At the end of the day, its your money, so you do what you want to do with it.

It wont eat ur battery at all, only thing that eats it is how long u use it and what ur playin on it, watching movies will take more power than listeing to music and so on.

I am an owner of the Datel 4gb bundle, and ill tell you now dont get it. Also the 4gb memory cards arent too expensive $250 when they first come out, if you wait abit it will be $200 or less on ebay.
If anyone else out there is an owner and the hdd is laggy with movies then dont upgrade, the pmpmod player and pmpmuxer2 will run on the datell hdd fine with no lag.
Sometimes to keep things peaceful you need a Piece thats Full

I am the owner of a worthless 4gb hdd from datel. I bought it 6 months ago from liksang.com. It didnt fit on the back of the psp properly and the HDD cable wouldnt lock into place resulting in the PSP not recognizing the HDD. LikSang would have 'exchanged' the HDD only and not complete package and that made me wonder if I would be getting a new HDD when they returned it. Problem was that I had to ship it to Honk Kong and that would have cost no cheaper than $75. I decided against it. Didnt want my losses to keep adding up.
This is something you should take into account. If it doesnt work, or if you wont like it, will you pay additional shipping to return or exchange it? Assuming they accept returns?

It could be your connector it is a really bad design very easy to wreck it. Ive already wrecked one and returned it. Sometimes the hdd wont detect because the fake memory stick is pushed in too much try pulling out just abit till you feel a little click.
Another negative is unlike a memory stick where you can plug n play it the Datel hdd needs your psp to be turned off before you insert or remove it otherwise you get crazy crashes.
