Hey all,

I recently tried to install the DMS4-EZI mod in my version 5 ps2 with very little success. My problems that i was having was that the video output of the ps2 did not work with the chip in and the eject tray was very choppy. After a half dozen times trying to boot the machine and failing i decided to remove the chip completely and return the ps2 to normal. I put it all back together now without the chip and the ps2 will power up and eject the dvd tray but will not read any discs. Has anyone had a similar problem or any idea of what could be causing this.
Any help would be great...

Check the pins on the BIOS and the DSP. I had the same problem and I found that a couple of bins had bent and were touching causing them to short out. Once I fixed them (using a needle), the system came back to life.

Once you got the machine back to life did you attempt to re-install the chip or just leave your PS2 as is. I am starting to think that this MOD is not such a good idea, all you read on here is people that have fried their machines, not too much positive feedback.

Basically once I got my machine back up and running I tried to reinstall the EZI chip but the same thing happened (occasional BSOD caused by bent pins). I removed the EZI chip finally and actually purchased a DMS4 Pro SE (solder) and paid $30 to a guy in Connecticut to solder it in place.

From what I've read and what has happened to me directly, the EZI chips are nothing but trouble. Even though it's a great concept, there's something inherently wrong with them. Some people will get them running fine but a good majority end in either frying the motherboard or being left with a PS2 BSOD nightmare.

Good luck and let me know if you need anymore info...
