Question: Why use DVD2One when SmartRipper allows you to do the same thing? It looks like the Stream Processing tab in SmartRipper allows you to do everything DVD2One does. Has anyone tried ripping DVDs with this process and had success burning?

SmartRipper is not an authoring/compression tool and DVD2ONE is not a ripping tool. Basically you need both pieces of software for ripping and processing your DVDs.

You will then need a further piece of software for burning them to DVD-R, something like Nero.

If your original is less than 4.36GB, you would be able to use DVD Decrypter to rip and burn, however.

I understand that, but DVD2One's only function is to remove excessive files, like the extra audio tracks, extra movie angles, subtitles, etc.

Well, SmartRipper already chooses the correct vobs to rip and the has the ability to choose which audio streams, subtitles, etc. to rip as well.

So my question is, why do the tutorials tell us to use DVD2One when SmartRipper seems to have the same functions built in?

Nope, sorry, but you are wrong. Whilst you are correct that SmartRipper has the ability to do stream processing, that does not usually get the DVD the desired size, and besides it would not be ready to burn anyway. What you need to do is remove those unnecessary streams, then compress and author it back, so that the vobs and ifos reference properly. You will then have a proportionally compressed DVD minus whichever audio streams you did not want. You can't just rip a DVD with SmartRipper then burn it with Nero :-) Shame, but true!

I actually just burned a DVD with Nero after ripping it with SmartRipper (selecting all files). Works in my drive's DVD-ROM with menu.

Does it work in a standalone? Also, the DVD was certainly less than 4.36 GB. That is the problem, as the rippers have no compression routines.

I havent tested on a standalone. The DVD was indeed less than 4.36 gig.

Yet, even with a larger DVD, stream processing only 1 audio track (preferably 6ch), and the movie...shouldnt it fit on one dvd disc?

If DVD2One actually compresses the .vob's, then there should be some lose in quality, right?
