just buy an old VW Beetle and strip it down. bit bigger than a go-kart and a hella lot faster. :D
if you're gonna build a go-kart, it all really depends on how far you're willing to go. if i were you, i'd weld the chassis together myself and strip a small tranny/engine from some miniature import car and put all that together.
however, i don't think you're looking to go that far. shopping around lawn mower shops will turn up almost all the parts you need, except the frame. not sure where to get that.

We once built one out of a lawnmower engine.... waaaaay too slow.... the next summer we built one with a vw motor like you were saying. Step Brother and I built the whole frame from scratch.... we even had a corvette stearing wheel out of one of our old race cars.... I can't tell you how many time the cops tried to give me a ticket...that thing was LOUD!
haha that brings up a funny story... long story short, i bet my step brother he couldn't take it through the Motor X course...he did and nearly killed to kids on dirt bikes! omg it was funny tho. you should have seen those little dudes trying to get away from him and him trying to run them down through the woops....he broke the axel on the last woop..... god i miss those days.

The fact that I don't have my stepdads shop anymore is really the only thing. The man raced cars for 30 years and is pretty much Bob Villa with attitude so he had like every tool under the sun. I don't have a lot of space or tools at my townhouse.

My son and I built him one maybe 14 years ago or so (when he was about 15) and we used an old Kawasaki 750cc 3 cyl engine from a bike we bought at a motorcycle wrecking yard ... The darn thing was scary fast! ... and you get a transmission that way also

......................Aishwarya.......................
Miss World - 1994

Her winning at beauty pageants comes as no surprise, because beauty that glorious has a way of conquering the world. And eventually she did conquer the world, by claiming the ' Miss World title', in South Africa. Immediately after being crowned Miss World 1994, Aishwarya Rai spoke of her dream for peace for this world, and her desire to be an ambassador of peace during her one-year reign.
What qualities should the Miss world 1994 embody? To this question at the pageant, she replied," The Miss Worlds that we have had to date have been proof enough that they must have compassion for the underprivileged and not only to the people who have status and stature. We have to look beyond the barriers that man has set for ourselves - of nationality and colour. That would make a true person, real person."
Looking back at her life we find, her face launched a thousand shoots and almost as many ad campaigns. This constant quest for fresher, newer pastures that has taken this ravishing beauty to where she is today - on top of the world. She finally entered in films and stormed the silver screen. With the best actress award for the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, tucked under her belt, she's already being hailed a superstar.
However with her beauty, charm and talent, too much of her is too less. It seems the world still can't get enough of the ethereal goddess, Aishwarya Rai.

If our garage was a lil bigger and I had 70 grand worth of tools lying around I'd do it in a heartbeat. now the only thing we get made in our garage is spud guns... for those of you that don't know what a spud gun is its a potato cannon made out of PVC using a bbq grill ignitor and hairspray (or if your really brave Ether) .... I live with 3 engineering students and I've seen a potato fly at least 200 yards.

thanks guys, i like the idea of the motorcycle engine. that would be cool. i want to race it with some friends we are all building them, for drags and circuts and whatever else we feel like. it would also be good to have that tranny, go faster with it.

@Darthnip: It must be nearly impossible to keep ones self on that thing when goosing it at high speeds like that. I can't even imagine the force that puts on the body... also I don't know how stoked i'd be about going that fast that close to the ground... espessially without a roll cage of somekind.. but I guess the center of gravity is so low that its nearly impossible to roll.

no it's actually pretty easy to roll if you dont know how to drive it or your setup is wrong, not to mention touching tired with someone, which cause one of the karts to go airbourne usually. i've ran quite a few shifter karts and the speed is amazing even from a 125cc engine. my favorite was the 250cc enduro kart i ran, you literally almost lay down in them and the engine is right beside your head. i couldn't imagine what running a gixxer engine would be like, but i'd sure like to find out!
and about the electric starter motor kart, we actually had an engineer where i work (worlds largest starter manufacturer) that designed a kart with 2 24V 50MT semi starters driving it. i guess the way he had it designed it was like "instant on" full power and he calculated 0-100mph in 3.1 seconds or something ridiculous like that. i'm not sure if he ever built it, i heard rumors that after he did the speed calculations it kind of scared him lol.

wow, i cant imagine driving a shiftercart around my housing with a 6 speed shiftercart and a engine with 15k redline, rofl. Ive seen that video, and have the whole movie that features mostley jdm cars, that tsuchiya drives. Yeah it gets to 8k really fast, damm thoes turbos must spool at 2-3K, and the engine probally has internals.
fugg it

i went to the junk yard the other day with aus, and they didnt have any motorcycle engines. one of the ones i went to said they just shipped all of the ones that they ahdd out, so i have to check back later. oh well. but it sucks one of the ones we went to wouldnt even let us in the yard, you would think that thats how they make most of their buisness, by letting people canabilizeing car parts. oh well.
