Suddenly my dvd shrink is freezing and shuts down at the beginning of the encoding stage. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the dve shrink program? I have downloaded the updated version and I was instructed by my system to download and install Windows Service Pack 2 patch, which I did, but the problem persists. Can anyone help?

Which movie are you trying to back up?

DVD Shrink is no longer updated and therefore can not handle on it's own some newer movies due to their encryption.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

Instead of DVD Shrink, use DVDFab decrypter to rip the DVD to your HDD.

Get it here;
http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe

Once DVDFab is done ripping the files to your HDD, open the files with DVDshrink by clicking on the open files tab and browsing to where the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab is located and choose it to open the files. Shrink should import the files and allow you to do with them what you want.

Here's a guide on using DVDFab if needed;

Have you tried processing the files thur Vobblanker first, vobblanker will create a new set of files that shrink should now be able to open and process.

get vobblanker here;

Note: when loading the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, make sure you click on the Proc.All button to the right of the window to make sure all VTS_** are processed.
