PS2 games no longer start up automatically

I've got the original PS2 with the fan, and for the first couple years all the games would load and start up automatically. I'd just put in the game, close the drawer, hit reset, and the game would start up!

It doesn't work like that anymore...

After a few years the menu screen just pops up after hitting reset and I have to select "Browser," and then I wait about 30 seconds until the disc appears on screen with my memory cards- I then select the disc to play the game. This system has gotten quite a bit of use, so I can understand why it might be slow these days, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get my games to start up after hitting reset. Any feedback is appreciated!

sound like you may need to ajust your laser. look on the forums for guides
