I have 42 hrs of home VHS tapes. Want to convert to a digital format that allows me to edit the 42 hrs down to something manageable/viewable (i.e. 2 hrs). Commerical conversion services seem to only put it in DVD format which is not easily editable in a home PC video editor. To get the DVD format converted to one of the MPEG formats takes many hours and much-o space on hard drive.

I know I could by an analog-to-digital device and do this myself through a PC (I have a Dell Dim.8300, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, etc), but I rather put my time into editing, not the raw conversion.

Is there a commercial service that will convert VHS directly to MPEG for editing in home video editing program? Thanks.
