How good is the pal 2 ntsc patch?

I have a pal file on my comp. And i need to convert it to NTSC. I've read in other threads and disccusions that the conversion doesnt center the screen or something like that.

Is the conversion to NTSC horrible, slightly playable, or it works alright?
