K i had a power calibration error last time i tryed to burn a dvd. So i took my top ff the tower and looked at the guts. There was dust everywhere lol. So i cleaned it. I noticed that there is 3 things cable switch ,slave, master. I got 2 drives a dvdrw and a cdrw drive. Both have a plastic piece on cable switch. Is this how there supposed to be?
I used to burn a lot and now out of the blue i get a power calibration and the burning % sits at 0 forever i dont get it.

Is it a Dell PC?
Dells are generally set up with the jumpers, that plastic piece, set to Cable Select. Pretty much every other PC in the universe is set to Slave on one drive, Master on the other. These two drives would be on the same cable.

I doubt if you have a cable problem. Try and blow out the drives with some canned air and see if that helps. Sounds like your PC is a bit dusty so some may have gotten into the drives.

Here's my technical explanation of what this is and some standard solutions:

Power calibration error can be caused by a dusty lens so if you do what FastFrank suggested then that would clear it up if that is the problem.

It is also caused by the burner not recog. the MID Code and the burner then tries to calibrate w/ the DVD it gets errors.

It can also be from a burner going to DVD Heaven
