I recently ordered a flip-top and swap magic 3.6 for my ps2 because most of my games were getting old and I didn't want to have to rebuy them if they were to get scratched or otherwise crap out on me. Anyway, I installed the flip-top and began having a problem w/ a clicking noise. On most games, it would make a loud and obnoxious clicking/grinding noise that obviously was not good for the system. Notable exceptions to this noise are Capcom vs. SNK 2, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and Capcom Fighting Evolution. All 3 ran perfectly.

I found these forums through a search and determined that it was probably the type of media I was using (I read it mentioned in just about every thread like this). So I went out and got Maxell 8x DVD+R's (the Ri-tek ones). These were listed as a good media type on the site that is contained in one of the stickies. Needless to say, this did not work and the clicking noise did not slow down.

I then decided that the problem must be my ps2's laser. I used the handy guide on this site to crack open my ps2, and adjust the laser myself. I noticed now that it worked w/ more games (like Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows played fine now). However, games that I had just purchased, such as Kingdom Hearts II and Guilty Gear XX Slash (which I paid like 70 dollars for, no less) still did not run right. The clicking/grinding noise still happened in alot of cases. My question is... what other possible solutions or alternatives do I have?

that could be the problem for sure, i have heard that many times, try loosening the screws on the bottom of the case, little by little and see if the noises stop and the games load right.
Maxcell is fine as long as they say Made In Japan
Some PS2's do fine with +R and others do not, i stick with -R because all my PS2's have played those fine. If your burner has the ability to booktype to DVD-Rom then the +R should work well if booktyped

It's definately not because it's on to tight, I actually have all of the screws out currently. I thuoght that maybe that was the problem. I have not tried -R media yet. I have a V7 ps2, do you think that would make a big difference? I how do I go about book-typing my media?

My V7 hates +R, i use only -R

Booktyping can only be done with +R media.
and only with some burners.
search the word and you will find many post explaining it.
