i have a 2 wired modem, and it has a stand-by button on it. what does stand-bying do? and what do i do to do it?

stand by lags the other people in xbox live but you stay connected perfectly this only works in halo 2 and you need host......

WTF do softmods and hardmods have to do with standbying, stealing host, circle boosting, etc? I personally don't see the connection, since even people with unmodded boxes can do that...
