Searched the forum for "DVD Compatibility", but the threads did not answer my question.

I am using Pinnacle 10 to create DVD Demo Movie. The DVD works in some DVD players and not in others. I am looking for some insight on whether this is a Media issue or something with Pinnacle...

I read a thread which said DVD-R is the most compatible across most DVD players, so I have been creating my DVD's in this format.(I have a dual format burner, so i can do DVD+R if compatibility is better)

My main issue is that the DVD's will be distributed in mass and I want to ensure the most compatibility across the board. I still am having problems with the disks not playing. DVD Players says, the disk is not recognized by the DVD Player with message "Insert Disk" (Same message, different DVD Players).

Can the Media brand make a difference with compatibility? Is DVD-R media all the same when it comes to compatibility??

The DVD-R Media I am using has the following info on the center of the disk: H1-02L19401165554A13. It does not say what brand it is

I also have DVD+R Media, with the folliwing info on the center: K3C01361C106RS3121014A09684 - TDK DVD+R 4X RW

First off, RW media is not as compatible as R media ...

I distribute lots of DVDs at various shows I go to and I have found that the most compatible format is DVD+R that has been booktyped to DVD-ROM .. you also need to use better media .. I would recommend Verbatim, made in Japan Sony, made in Japan Maxell and even Office Depot's house brand is much better than the TDK discs that you mention ...

You do need to understand however, that nothing is 100% in the burnable disc world ..

Here are several articles for you to read ..

Thanks for the tip! I am reading away and hopefully create my new disk soon.

Since there's this extra step, it throws me off from creating movie in Pinnacle, since I was previously using the Make Movie tab in Pinnacle 10 to create a disk directly. I assume now I will need to create a file from Pinnacle first, then do the disk burn separately.

What format/quality does my file need to be before I create the disk as described in the article?

@lizmik

What catfreak told you is 100% accurate. The most compatible DVD is a DVD+ disc booktyped DVD-ROM. Booktyping is a feature in some burners. Yours may or may not support booktyping. Please let us know which burner you are using, and we will find out if you can't.

I am a Studio 10 Plus user myself and know it properly compiles DVD files. Your problem is likely a booktyping issue. Please see my signature for more information on booktyping and compatibility of the many DVD players.

Ok, I think I understand now..(I am still reading the links)..

Step 1) I create the Video as normal to a DVD using Pinnacle
Step 2) Then I copy the DVD using Nero and change to bitsetting to DVD-ROM?

I have a Lite-On,with the following info: LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S

I opened up Nero and found bitsetting info.....

Correct Make sure you change the booktype configuration before you start burning. Once the disc is burned and closed, it can't be written to again.

Just to make sure this was covered, you can only booktype DVD+ (single or dual layer) media. DVD- media can not be booktyped.

Also, you may want to try to use Booktype135.zip on the page below. This should work from any program you burn with, including Pinnacle...

If memory serves me correct, once you run Booktype135, your burner will always booktype DVD+ media to DVD-ROM regardless of which burning program you use. To change the setting back to the original config, just run Booktype135 again.

Booktype135 'sets' the booktype feature into a LiteOn drive itself ... I did this to a SOHW1693s drive, then installed the drive into a LVW-5005 set top recorder ... now the recorder booktypes ... really cool feature!!
