Ritek is mid grade media but good stuff, Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim are the best out there (which would be my choice)

That TYG02 code is good..i have some of those but the Ritek G05 seem to play in any of my friends dvd players..i might add that some of my TYG02's wouldn't play properly on theirs either...i think its some kind of compatibility issue but when i gave them a movie on a RitekG05...flawless playback...go figure....i just wish i could get DVD+R and booktype but i don't think my sony dru-810 & sony dru-820 support booktyping... :(

Good news for you - your Sony dru-810 oem is BenQ and supports booktyping. Your other Sony's oem is also BenQ but booktying isn't shown as an option for it.

Ok so that is good news i've tried several times to get it to booktype but with no sucess whatsoever ...my old memorex burner would automatically booktype without me having to do anything.

In Shrink after you click back up go to the burn settings tab - the option to book type is there.
For Nero go to Nero ToolKit>CD-DVD Speed>Extra>bitsetting.
Those 2 progs I'm pretty sure you have.
DVD Decrypter will booktype also. Tool>drive>change booktype. You would use the BenQ.

editted to add: You may have to have a blank +r in the drive 1st before you can change the booktype.

Dang - usually if it's greyed out means doesn't support it. See if Nero will do it picking this drive w/ a blank it in.
Maybe a flash to BenQ firmware would do the trick but there I can be of no help.
Here's where I found the booktype/bitsetting for the drive. It's usually pretty accurate.

I don't think the booktype feature is supported for the sony dru-810 with nero (which is what dvd shrink is using for the burn utility) I think I read that you will need to use dvdinfopro's booktype utility with that drive. You can try making an iso and then burning with dvd decrypter or imgburn. Under booktype select benq. I don't know if this will work or not but worth a try since the sony dru-810 is a rebadged benq. As a last resort you could flash your drive with benq f/w.

Edit: sorry Karen didn't mean to repeat what you wrote. Try using dvdinfopro to booktype.

@movies

your drive is a Benq 1640 rebadge~ :) it's an excellent drive that i've been incredibly happy with...it's just a Sony "bezel" with Benq 1640 internals~

if you are willing to consider a cross-flash as mentioned by our illustrious binkie and mort, you would be able to get a "lot more" outta that drive you have there~ in terms of scanning as well as frequently updated Benq firmware (which i find to be more often than Sony's firmware updates...i have the Sony dru-710a, which is a rebadged Liteon SOHW-1633S, but i didn't bother to cross-flash it to a Liteon cuz the BYX5 firmware from Sony is pretty decent) :)

it's just a matter of PERSONAL liking...and some testing...if you don't feel comfortable with all this testing of firmwares, cross-flashing this and that...then stick with what you got going for ya now...just wanted to let ya know that IF you do consider the cross-flash to Benq firmware, you will "unlock" a whole new world of getting the most from your burner...
