So I finally upgraded my NEC DVD Burner to the new Plextor 760A. I really liked my NEC burner, I never had any problems with it, it just wouldn't read any media above 8x, so it was time to upgrade.
Now, when I burn any backed-up movies or games with the Plextor, they don't want to play. Movies in any DVD player (be it standalone or in the PC) are jerky, the skip and are completely unwatchable, my standalone player has a hard time reading them. Backups do not even read in my PS2.
I usually burn with Nero or DVD Decrypter and I have been using the same brand of media, Memorex 8x or 16x. Ideas?

Welcome to aD!
Playback problems are usually caused by media and or burn speed.
Those Memerox are not that good. You can try taking the burn speed down. I would also switch to better media like Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
The Plextor is a great burner - try it with some better media.
The NEC may have just needed a firmware update to help it read the newer media. It best to keep the firmware up to date to help it with the different media

Thanks for the help.
Trying to update the firmware on my NEC was my first step, but both NEC and the homebrew community just stopped updating it. Makes sence, it was quite old, model 1100 I believe.
I'll try picking up some new discs tomorrow and let you know the results

Not a problem!
Yeah at some point all manufacturers stop the support. I have a Pioneer that the last update was a year ago but a Liteon that's older that just had a firmware update - go figure.
Keep us posted on the results!
