Quick info:
NEC3550 (Modified firmware update Liggy & Dee?s 1.Y6)
Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWID2 (Official firmware update JWS6)
TYG02 full-hub pintables from SuperMediaStore

Okay, I?ve been working on backing up my DVD collection for several of months now. I have been addicted to this site even before I started, getting every bit of information I could to make sure my DVDs would turn out the best. I?m not one to post questions though; instead I?d rather search for my answers. But now I think I?m stuck and I really need a bit of advice.

Previously, I had been using my Memorex drive to rip DVDs to my computer using DVDFab Decrypter. Then I used DVD Shrink + DVD Decrypter to burn onto my 8x DVD-Rs using my NEC drive. Using Nero CDSpeed, my quality score averaged about 97-98 but I had very high PI errors.

Now, I?m ripping DVDs to my computer using DVD Decrypter (Main Movie + IFOs) with my NEC drive and then burning onto my DVD-Rs with my Memorex drive. My PI errors are much lower now but my quality score has steadily decreased to 90 then 70 then 40 and now 0.

That's just an example of a more recent scan. I've had high peaks in errors all over the place.

Any ideas? I?ve tried multiple original DVDs so I know it?s not a problem with the discs. I?ve cleaned both drives and repeated the burns only to see the score decrease further. I?ve gone back to ripping with the Memorex and burning with the NEC. I have not yet tried to rip/burn with only one drive to maybe localize the problem to a single drive. I?ve also varied the speed from 2x to 4x to 8x. No luck. DMA is enabled. NEC is the master, Memorex driver is the slave. I?m trying to think of any more info ya?ll might need....Well, like I said, any insight at all would be very much appreciated!

It's really hard to tell looking at the 2 scans you've provided .. I mean, 1 is 2682MB and scanned with a NEC drive while the other is 4300MB scanned with a Memorex drive .. who knows, if the first disc you provided the scan for was burned as far as the second disc scanned was maybe it would score even worse

And really .. the second scan looks pretty good until the very end .. sometimes when burns get bad at the end that way it may indicate the laser is getting weak or maybe dirty .. how did you clean the drive? The only effective way is to pull the cover and, using a QTip and alcohol, manually clean the laser
