Action replay cannot boot copied games.
You need swapmagic disks and a 'tool' to open the tray,
without pressing the 'eject' button on the console.

i got my 'tool' a flip-top kit at www.clearxbox.com for 12 dollars.
The 'tool' will VARY depending on your model ps2.

here is a good link about playing backup games on a ps2.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/304534
Here is the swapmagic3 website.
http://www.swapmagic3.com
Here is a pic of my ps2 with flip-top kit and swapmagic disks.
(Swap magic disks MUST be ORIGINALS they CANNOT be copied.)
Cheers!

whoa hold up!

if you already bought ARMAX, you can use the memory exploit trick; search it in the forums and Jjax gives a very detailed description on how to use ARMAX instead of getting ar2/gs2 or swap discs to play backup ps2 games- which is what i'm using.

AR Max may play them, but that is not what it was made for.
Swap Magic is.
Why people would spend the same amount on AR Max, which is made for cheat code, as it would cost for Swap Magic, which is made for playing backups, is beyond me.

Three simple reasons actually:

1. with the armax memory exploit trick you can get as many PS2s to play backup games as possible without armax to boot up the games. That means for every ps2 owners you know, you can help them out. Hypothetically if you had 15 friends, each an owner of a ps2, you can divide the expense...so $30/15 = $2 for each person to get their ps2 to play backups! Sharing is always nice =)

2. Aside from that, swap magic is either rarely sold on ebay or requires ordering online on sites in which not everyone trusts.

3. For the price of $30, the ARMAX comes as a gamecheat software, a genesis emulator, a media player and that $30 includes a 16MB memory card (the 8mb costs $20). i didnt have any memory card before i modded my ps2.

In conclusion, the ARMAX kit is a bargain especially if you didnt have a memory card or a modchip.

Unrepairable? Ouch! (because that's a great game!) In that case, i suggest you run to blockbuster and rent the darn game to get to a save spot in which you can pass, back it up (what $5 for one week) or just get another copy off of torrent sites (will take a week to fully download w/ dsl), since you are a legal owner.

The ARMAX memory exploit trick lets you play backup ps2 games without a harddrive. So in broader terms, this can help your kingdom hearts II and any other games you'd like to preserve. The only problems are, it's a hassle to boot up games (for people starting out) and extremely confusing for first timers to get the exploit onto the memory card (5 hour process for me when i first did it). Then again you could probably do it within an hour because i was being stupid.

Because you already have HDD and there's a problem in which i cant fully remedy, try consulting those who are more knowledgeable and experienced using HDL for KH2. If it was because you recorded a bad copy, try redownloading KH2 (a rental) onto your HDD. Otherwise, i've never used HDD for my ps2 before because it was an expensive alternative.

I would gladly help you if you chose the ARMAX route, but just know it's a $30 route. Where as if you fixed your HDL problem, that would be much cheaper.

BTW, no CC? Ouch! Wait how old are you? (just curious)

Hey, Im kind of a newbie at PS2 backups (Actually, I havnt tried anything involving backups or mods with the PS2, Strickly xbox, However, I am a kingdom Hearts fan and i received a burned copy, so now I must find a way to play it). and there is my problem, burned game, fat old PS2, and no mod. I have already tried the memory card exploit and failed. as it turns out, my version of Action Replay is practically ancient, so its not even MAX. Also normal disk swapping with action replay, gameshark, and codebreaker failed. Please help.

It's great that you have the resistance to do so, i know a feel people personally to assert the claim that the Credit Card theft occurs.

ShadowJoe, i agree kingdom hearts rocks!
There are six methods that i know of for playing backups
-ARMAX exploit w/lid or w/key(30 bucks)
-Swap Magic w/lid or w/key
-AR2/GS2 swap trick (cheaper but dont know where to find one)
-Harddrive boot (network adapter (30) + hd (40?)
-Modchip (20-70 bucks)
-ps2 mod = http://server1.megagames.com/ps2/ps2swap/index.shtml

the ps2 mod with the link, that's practically free but it's risky and you may damage your ps2.

I haven't tried any methods above except for the ARmax Exploit because it came bundled with a memory card.

The modchip and the HDDboot are the best methods i know because they're hassle free after you complete your setup.

i would help you further but i must get to school. Do some searching in the forums for these tutorials and decide which method suits you best. I will be back later to answer some questions, otherwise, this forum is loaded with nice people to help you out.

Good Luck

If you have any particular questions let me know.

BTW Ohio? OUCH! maybe you should move on over to California.

sorry to hear that. But Paypal accounts are free. You would just not have any money to transfer into it. I know plenty of people from OH, so it is not the state, it is the job.

if i had a white beard i would be stroking with the passion of contemplation. I have never seen version 3.0 before so that's a paradox in which i cannot approach. Maybe you should order swap magic for $20 using paypal, use the memory exploit trick off of it and then resell it on craigslist at full price.

I really do appreciate all the help, but It would alot easier for me to explore ARMAX v3.?(earlier had thought it was 3.0 but it might be something else, all I know is it has no media player aside from dvd player):or go and buy a newer version(like the one that comes in the tin sold at around "$50.00")

your kind welcome, no media player is something i can't understand!

the ARMAX i have is v3.36, came in the fancy tin case w/ memory card at BestBuy for $30. The 32mb pen drive version of that is also priced the same.

I explored some of the functions on my version to see which application mode would stop the CD from spinning (for booting the .ELF), but to no avail. I hope you get your backups working and a better paying job as well.

purpleBri thanks for everything, your info was more helpful than any of the cites I have visited in the two weeks I have spent researching this. Again, Thanks. I have decided to pay up and get a fliptop and swapmagic ( my patience was wearing thin with elf files and incorrect versions of Action replay + Gameshark). I did have one more question, as for the swap card trick and Action replay, Do you think its possible to use the old version of AR ( The one you dust off in your basement and look at it as if it was a PSone game). Its not Max and it has a dvd player center, which is kind of pointless when you can play dvd media from the main dash at start up. is this the media player I have been reading about? or am I just wasting my time.
thanks for the feedback
