After using DVD Shrink, I'm asked for empty disc. If I use 8x DVD- all is OK. If I use 8x DVD+ various brands, it starts writing at 12x and then ends with errors. Is this a problem with the BenQ 1620 or Nero burning program??
If you burn an 8X disk at 12X, you can't be surprised at getting errors. I personally never burn movies at more than 1/2 the disk rated speed (4X for an 8X disk and 8X for a 16X disk).
I agree with Stan. Benq drives are capable of overburning (burning media at a faster speed than the media is rated at). Although this can be done on some top quality media I don't recommend it for video files. If you are using good media you shouldn't have any problems burning them at 8x. For lower grade media slow it down to 4x. What media are you using?
What's your firmware version of that Benq 1620? B7W9 is the latest. That's for the bulk unit. If you got the pro/retail model- which the latest update should be G7W9.
What's the MID code of your blank media-both plus and dash?
Use Nero infotool to find this info out and post back.
That's one thing about the benq 1620,they will overburn majority of 8x media to 12x and even 16x if you leave your burn settings set on max. The 4x media is almost extinct. They wouldn't overburn that 4x media.
Sony +1x-8x will overburn at 16x. I have 2 benq 1620s and have accidentally burned some sony yuden000-T02 +8x media at 16x and they were ok. Over burning on low quality crap media, definitely more possibility of errors.
It sounds like you are ripping and compressing with DVD Shrink, and autoburning with Nero. Correct me if I am wrong.
Do you have single DVD-RW drive or dual dvd-rw/dvd-rom drives?
Using single drive DVD-RW drive and the combo of DVD Shrink and nero:
After selecting entire disc or reathor-click backup and look at the burn setting tab. That'll show you all your speed options. You may have- 1x/2x/2.4x/and max. Max is no good, especially on low quality media. You may have to opt for 2.4x.
Dual drives:
After clicking backup tab-you should have more burn speed options like: 2.4x/4x/8x/12x/and even 16x. If using quality media, select 8x. Crappy media-select 4x or lower.
Since these benqs will overburn media, qsuite takes care of that issue. But it won't work on My benq 1620 that is in a single drive pc. I placed it in another pc with dual drive capacity and burn speed options were all available. Benq 1640 with the overburn protection of qsuite took care of that single drive pc. No more overburning.
Saugmon,
Per Nero info tool:
Firmware is B7W9.
8x+ media is Ritek R03 and AML 002 (Both disc info state capable 12x)
8x- media is UME 01 (Disc info states 8x)
I am ripping and compressing with DVD Shrink, and autoburning with Nero.
I have single DVD-RW drive.
Using single drive DVD-RW drive and the combo of DVD Shrink and nero:
After selecting entire disc or reauthor-click backup and looking at the burn setting tab, I only have- 1x/2x/2.4x/and max options. No 4x, 8x etc. as you noted.
Using Nero tool, General drive section,I can adjust the write speed down for Benq from 12x to 8x, 4x, 2x, but it seems to default back to 12x if I exit this tab and reenter. I thought I could set the speed here but...
I don't see any reference to or where to access QSuite on my single drive system. Is this correct?
Since it seems to work OK at 8x for the - media, I would like to at least get the + media to write at a leisurely 8x instead of the sluggish 2.4x.
Incidentally, the BenQ tech seemed to think that their drives preferred + media.
Any comments appreciated.
All my benqs will burn anything including AML and UME,but those 2 I have to burn a lot slower. I wouldn't even risk them at 8x.
UME-01: Playo dash 8x?
AML-02: Playo plus 8x?
Benqs highly favor the plus format. They'll usually burn everything-at recommended or lower speed. Stand alone players have more difficulty with my benq dash backups. These benqs will booktype the plus format to dvd-rom,making a higher stand alone compatability rate.
Ritek-R03 are very good discs. Only at 8x though. I can also overburn these at 12x. Usually I go 4x on them, using 3 of my dual drive pcs.
Here's another option for single drive pcs using the DVD Shrink and Nero autoburning:
When you make your next backup-remember where those files go- and the original disc spits out, abort the burn. Then open up dvd shrink/open files/locate that movie-it'll do another very quick analysis/backup/check and see all your burn options now. They all should be available/double check rest of those settings-mainly where those files will be going/OK/and burn. You may have to create another folder or add those files to an older movie.
Just remember: On that setup, you'll have the same movie on your harddrive twice-in case harddrive space is a minimum. It'll also take an extra 15 mins or so to rip and then burn at 4x on the aml/ume or 8x on the ritek-Ro3.
