Oki doki, i think ive been in the psp long enough. time forme to move to my ps2 ^_^ . hope you guys are just as helpful.

i have an old version of PS2 (the fat chuggas). been searchin around for a network adaptor for YONKS!!! finally, one of my friends had one in his cupboard that he never uses, and he finally told me -_-' . so now i have a fat chugga PS2 and a network adaptor (sif im buying one... they go for AUD$70 still, and they dont make fat chugga PS2s anymore). im thinking now... what shall i do with it. i had a search in google and AD, and have some questions:

1. you guys mention v1/v2/v2.5, etc. what version is mine if it says "Model No. SCPH-30002R PAL"? couldnt find much, so yeah.

2. im going to put a hdd in my fat chugga. THATS ALL IM GOING TO USE. what method do i use for playing 'backups' and NTSC 'backups'?

3. xbox (dang i dont like it, but i must mention it) had a cool thing like xbox media centre. is there that kinda thing for PS2? cauz i wana put some different types of movie files, mp3z, files, dvd movies, etc so i can play them on my tv

if possible, i would love these answered. i guess ill be able to tolerate being called a 'noob' and stuff. even simple directions to which specific posts mention these. but if ur a real lovely, helpful, kindhearted person... you can help me here ^_^ . Thanks heapsa

SCPH-30002r is either a v5 or v6 more likely its a v5, i have that exact same model (but in NZ).
To get the hdd you need a software like hdloader or hdadvanced, which you could either pay and get the originals or get them free :) the best free method is to setup a memory card exploit that loads from a ps1 disc.
How It Works
When the ps2 boots ps1 games it scans the disc for its SCES/SLES it that ID is found in a file called TITLE.DB then it instead of booting the ps1 game will boot a files called BOOT.ELF from the memory card. ELF is the ps2 equivulent of .exe and .irx files are the same as .dll

You use the exploit to load BOOT.ELF which can be one of many different loader programs that can have other programs assigned to different buttons, so hdloader can be X and SMS MediaPlayer can be [] and so on...
SMS Media Player can be used to load mp3's and mpeg4 video files from the hdd easily.
Theres also another ELF that is called Myps2 which can play mp3 and load picture files, jpeg etc...

The only prob with the exploit is you need either a one time use of Swap magic, modchip or hdloader. Or the easier way is to spend money on a copy of ARMAX which makes the exploit really easy to do and has loads of features.

thanks heapsa for that. i have a bit of an understanding of it now.

i pretty much want it easy to use with little expense. i need money. cauz wut i waz going to do it back up my games that ive bought onto HDD and sell those games for money ^_^ . i COULD do that... but i bought the games with my hard effort :P . BEH!!

but yeah, ill have a read up on what i need to do, cauz i had more of a look. a lot of them say mod chip is better, but i dun wana fork out the money :P . i thought itd b as simple as add a hdd, get a loader that will read off the hdd, play ANYTHING u want on it, maybe have an additional GUI
