Hi all.

I bought my first PS2 a few days ago. It's a brand new slim one; I'm not sure the version yet but will check when I get home.

I'll admit, I'm a PS2 noob. I hadn't really planned on modding it but after doing some reading it seems simple enough. I've modded an Xbox before so I've got somewhat of an idea with this stuff.

Anyways, I'm wondering if I can mod it to play backups without having to void the warranty (that is, opening the console).

Will something like this be enough?
Will I have to swap discs to play backups?
Anything else I need to know?

I have a big stack of Taiyo Yudens that haven't been touched.

Thanks!

:D

magic switch and swap magic is about the only way.

not as good as having a mod chip installed
(DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity)
but yes, it will play back ups.

Am I correct in that:

MagicKeys = hardware and
SwapMagic = software?

Thanks!

yes, that is correct.
you install the magic keys into the PS2 to stop it from resetting when you open the lid to swap discs.

Swap magic is a set of discs, one CD version for CD based games, one DVD version for DVD based games

Whoa - I realized my model # is 7500x - a lot of these "Magic Keys" or "Magic Switch" things I'm finding either support up to 7000x or require the PS2 to be opened for a 7500x.

Do I have any options to load backups on my 7500x slim PS2 without opening it?

Fliptop or
Magic Keys/Slimtool/Ghost Switch/Magic Switch

other than getting a mod chip installed those are really the only good ways.
Now i have seen some cheap "do it yourself" type of mods
one called a tape & tissue mod, one called a straw mod
But do those at your own risk.

the magic switch i saw said the same thing, there was one peice that you needed to open up the PS2 for. Since all of them go by different names but are pretty much the same thing i would say they will most likely be the same.
