Depends, if you got 1.5 you have to use that kai x link but if you got 2.0+ then its normal, and i think you can play all over the world if they support it..

So if you have FW 1.5, do you have to use X-link kai to play online?
Why is this?

eternalis:
Xlink kai is used to make more games available to be played online.
Some games came adhoc and some games come infrastructure(internet)
With xlink kai the adhoc games also become internet therefore more games would be playable, not just for 1.5 all psp versions. As for 1.5 any umd with infrastructure mode will work fine, and any backup that works with fastloader.

Uk_gamer: you will need your psp, a wireless access point(wireless router or wireless adaptor) and a umd with infrastructure mode multiplayer.

A PSP has two types of wireless. These are ad-hoc and infrastructure. In ad-hoc multiplayer the PSP connects to another PSP to play multiplayer (the Xlink Kai system simulates one or more PSPs, so your PSP thinks it is playing ad-hoc with a nearby PSP, but it is playing online, this is known as tunneling). In infrastructure mode, a PSP connects to a wireless access point and goes through the internet to connect to other PSPs. The older PSP games only had ad-hoc so it was impossible to play online without Xlink Kai. But the new games do not require a tunneling service, as they can access the internet directly.
