Basically, what I am asking is, if I got 8x Taiyo Yudens would it be less quality if I burnt them at 4x? Should these be burnt at 8x or can I move down to 4x with no loss at all? Im so used to buying 4x Taiyo Yudens that when i get 8x taiyo's I dont know what speed to go!!! What do you reccommend for burning speed?
I would recommend you test your Taiyo Yudens by burning at both 4x and 8x and then scan them using Nero cd/dvd speed. Compare the two results and you can decide which is the best way to burn those Taiyo Yudens. Good luck :-)
I agree .. whether you burn at 4x, 8x or even overburn 'em at 12x and 16x largely depends on your system configuration and the DVD writer that you have ... My BenQ burners love to burn fast so I burn the T02 Yuden discs at 8x and, if I'm in a hurry, 12x

i recommend 4x because slower is better to me...think of it like a production line if boxes are coming down a line fast & you have to fill them you'll make tons of mistakes but if they came down slow then your chance of mistakes would be almost obselete.4x is the only way i go...i've tried 8x & even 16x on Verbatim's but i just love burning my Ritek G05's at 4x.
Again, it really depends on your DVD writer .. as I stated in my previous post 'my BenQ burners like to burn fast' ... I always burn at max speed and I have a very low number of PI errors and failures .. when I burn at 4x, the errors and failures rise
Also, media brand will differ when you use different burners .. my BenQs like the Taiyo Yudens and aren't particularly fond of the Riteks .. I do need to burn Ritek discs slow because they're slow to spin up and I really don't get good results with them .. so I use 'em in my Litey and Ricoh which love 'em ...
I think that the best thing to do is to burn the same image on the same brand disc at several different speeds .. then scan them to determine which speed is best .. the BenQ drives can cheat by using QScan with a blank disc and it'll determine the best speed

Yep, it all depends on your system. I got my latest LiteOn drive and a test firmware for overspeeding and decided to try them out. I was burning TY 8X DVD+R at every available speed over 4X using different burning software. Even at 16X playback was fine but the Kprobe scans were pretty scary! I've since disabled the overspeeding for my drive and stick to 4X for 8X media, the scan results are just too good to ignore. Maybe I'm just too picky, but what the hey, better safe than sorry!
