Don't download it if you want to play homebrew. It wont let you use the GTA exploit to play homebrew (emulators etc.).

Firmware 2.7 also allows you to save podcasts (audio RSS feeds) onto your memory stick.

Sony have also started releasing free demos which can be downloaded off the internet, however these require firmware 2.7 (there is only one demo out so far, and it is called LocoRoco).
