Ok, hopefully, this makes sense:
awhile back, i figured out a way to use dvd shrink to reauthor and keep the main menu- this is how i did it:
i ripped the whole dvd in file format with dvd decryptor
then determined the main movie and title sets-
then i copied the video_ts.ifo, video_ts.bup, and video_ts.vob, along with the main movie and title set ifos, bups, and vobs.
i copied these into another folder, and tried to open with dvd shrink, which gave an error.
i opened ifoedit, and used it to open the main video_ts.ifo, and got sectors- it fixed several sector addresses.
i then reopened with dvd shrink, which then worked, and so i had basically reauthroed the dvd and kept the mian menu- when i put the dvd in the player and clicked on a menu that was something other than the main movie, it cycled back to the main menu-perfect ;-)
then back in the original folder, i copied back the video_ts.ifo, video_ts.bup, and video_ts.vob as well as the main movie ifo and bup, and again used ifoedit to get sectors. this disc required no shrinking, and again, it played perfectly.
ok, now memoirs of a geisha:
i tried the same method, which didnt work
first i learned i had to use dvdfabdecryptor, not dvddecryptor, to circumvent a new protection on this disc, so i did it, and did get the dvd decrypted to my hard drive.
then i repeated the steps described above:
i copied the main movie vobs, ifos, and bups, and the video_ts.ifo, video_ts.bup, and video_ts.vobs into a new folder- used ifoedit to correct sectors, and used dvd shrink to shrink it to a single layer size.
i burned the disc, and tried it in a home player, but it didnt work
so i went back into my computer, and copied all the other ifos and bups, again used ifoedit to correct sectors, and again shrank it with dvd shrink
this time it did work on the home player, with the difference that if you click on a menu link other than the main movie, it freezes and stops, not cycling back to the main menu as i mentioned above with the other dvd
course, it plays, and the menu works, the scene selections work- but it seems that it should cycle back the the main menu if anything is clicked that isnt on the dvd, as i described above.
maybe im going about this the long way, but im kinda old school and like getting in there and moving files around ;-)
thanks for reading this, and hopefully some of you can give me some insight....
