Switching fron Direct Tv to Time Warner Cable

Well i decided to make the switch to all in one service with Time Warner Cable.Wanted one seemless bill.But I had one special question for the rep that set up my new service.
Will my Tivo work with the Cable Service,and is the any software that will make it compatible?Of course the rep put me on hold to verify but came back with the answer i did not want to hear.
I'm sure all of you that have Tivo love the product and really do not want to switch.
So I pose this question to the group.
Will my Tivo work and do i need to subscribe to Tivo service and add that additional bill or should i just suck it up and place it back in the box and waite for my next yard sale this Summer and exccept the DVR thru Time warner Cable????
