OK, i wanted to trick my sisters PS2 for her birthday (21'st!) and i think i got my facts straight, it would be cool if someone could confirm i got this right.

WHAT I WANT TO DO
-I would like to be able to *backup* games and be able to play them.
-I would like to be able to emulate the good old consoles.
-All without using a network card or hard drive.

WHAT I THINK MY BEST SOLUTION IS
-Buy a mod chip.
-Install the Independence Day exploit with a launcher and goodies to emulate and other good stuff (may need a hard drive for roms/more software??? could i use a bootable cd/dvd space for the cool stuff?)

MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE SITUATION
-After installing the mod chip, my *backups* magically work??
-The exploit allows me to launch all these awsome .elf's from any one of these awsome launchers??

*Question* Are all mod chips the same (besides version compatability)?

*Question* I can utilize the independence day exploit to boot and load *backups* from a MC with the help of some elves and a PS1 disc (nice) if i knew someone with a PS2 capable of booting/installing the exploit...but i dont, that's why i need to buy a mod chip or buying magic swap (which i see cant be downloaded and burned), is that correctt?

Well, that's my understanding of my first step. If someone could tell me that i sound about on target or give me a tip or two, that would be great.

Thanks Guys,
Matt

the modchip would let you boot ps2 backups. The exploit would also boot your exploit, but you need some ways to boot up the exploit installation disc(modchip, swap magic..)
all modchip aren't the same, read the modchip faq http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/304534

Also, if you get a good chip (dms4 or matrix infinity), you don't even have to do the expoit. The chip can copy/run programs off the memory card by itself.

Pioneer 107, ritek g05

Great, thanks for the confirmation, i got a DMS4 SE Lite...would have gotten the Magic 3.1 for the cost savings but i figured that sense i didnt know what i was buying inside and out, spend a few more bucks...

So i may be able to use the mod chip to run launchers and .elf's off the memory card without using the exploit? That's sweet (all though the exploit just sounds cool...i'm doin it anyway), thanks for the info!

Well, cant wait to kick @$$ in 2-3 buisness days.
