Why the hell can I not make a copy of a backup I already have??? I have tried to make a backup of doom, memoirs of a geisha, domino, etc. (they are all backups) I have tried using nero copy dvd, I have tried DVDD and then use DVDD to burn and nothing. It will not play. I am using Sony discs....what could be the problem??

How far along are you getting in the process? Are you getting any error messages?
Sometimes the problem is what drive you are reading the copy with. If you are using a DVD burner then that may be the problem.
I use a DVD-ROM for reading which is what it is designed to do so usually works OK.
If you can watch them on your computer you should be able to burn them though.
If you can watch the original copy on your PC, try watching it for a few moments then pause the movie, minimize the player and then open your copy software. That may get it to work.
If it is a media problem you usually get some sort of an error message so your Sonys may be fine. I'm assuming this is what you are using for blank media and not what the copys are burned on.

@Specops70, Do you have DVDIdentifier or a comparable program to get the MID codes from your burnt discs? You might also try scanning one using Nero Cd/Dvd disc quality to see what kind of results you get.
@fasfrank, Nice website man! Think I'll add it to my favorites!

You used dvd decrypter, but I'm not sure exactly how you tried to do it.
Use dvd decrypter in Mode ISO read to harddrive/Mode ISO write/Locate those mds files of that movie/open/and burn.
There's a couple setting in dvd decrypter you need to change:
Open up dvd decrypter
Tools
Settings
CSS Tab: Tick Brute force, which is just above none.
I/O Tab:Tick ignore read errors
OK- and try ripping in Mode ISO Read to harddrive.
If successful-fish out the mds files of that title and burn away.If not-it'll be a lot tougher to rip.
Possibilities of why backups can't be re-ripped for extra copies:
1) Poor quality media
2) Burned too fast with crap media.
3) High quality media-burned too slow
4) Paper/sticker labels
5) Burner quality- May need updated firmware. Some burners are very poor-resulting in lots of little errors on their backups. Some are also weak readers.
6) Dirty/bad discs-look for fingerprints/dirt/etc.
What is the format/speed rate/and how fast did you burn those sony discs?
The MID code would help and dvd decrypter will tell you.
What is the brand name/model#/and firmware version of your dvd-rw drive/
Is this the only drive,or do you have another dvd-rw or dvd-rom drive?
Those backups that won't re-rip: How do they look on stand alone player/s and the dvd-rw drive that played them?
Can you scan them using a program like nero speed test/dvdinfopro/kprobe/plextools? This may show those little errors and see how bad they really are.
When you can't re-rip your backups, something major is wrong. Sony makes some ok media, and some great media. That MID code/ how fast you burned them/and your dvd-rw drive model # may help explain.Example: My Benq 1640 has fewer PIF errors burning sony +1x-8x Yuden000-T02 at 8x than the Sony +1x-16x SonyD21 at 4x.Yet it gets too many crc errors when Burning Verbatim +16x MCC-004 media at 2.4x and 4x. Slow burning necessary for sonyD21,while faster burning necessary for MCC-004 and Yuden000-T02. All comes down to quality media and quality drives.
Some drives perform better with faster speed using quality media. Some drives have to burn the crappier media, slower. All these factor in for all those little errors that will be on backups. Too many of these little errors,or errors in the wrong spot will usually result in crc errors. Stick labels also add to this problem.
Up to date firmware on your dvd-rw drive may also be needed. This controls the writing strategy.
Dvd decrypter is a very aggressive ripper, especially after setting it to brute force and ignore read errors. Isn't 100% guaranteed, but is a possibility for success.
If I can't re-rip any of my backups on the fly, then they are of no use to me.
