my pstwo slimline is acting up, think it might be the laser

when i boot up a game, it seems that my PStwo have very hard time reading discs, the console is EXTREMELY noisy as if the games hits the laser or something and there's constantly loading-notfications popping up even when there's not supposed to, a good example would be during the cutscenes in MGS2 and 3.

dvd or cd based, backups or orignal games its still the same, none of my games will play properly.
the strange thing is that this all happend over night, was playing kingdom hearts II(US import) one day, and the next all this started happening.
as I said I think it might be laser, is there any way to fix it or is it just a matter of buying yet another one ? (will be my 3'rd playstation 2 if thats the only solution lol)
