I have a DVD (sports movie made by friend) I'm trying to copy and am having all types of problems.
I tried reading and encoding with DVDShrink but would either get an excpetion occured error during analysis or the program would screw up and use nearly 2000 page file and I'd get an error that there wasn't enough page source to run the program.
So I used DVDDecrypter and then CDCHeck to read and copy the files onto my hard drive.
I get the same problems trying to encode from the hard drive- expectpions occur, program problem occur or page usage goes way too high.
When it finally does encode- it gets to 100% finished and then I get an error saying an excpeption occured then a DVDShrink closes down. I have the ISO file that is the size it is supposed to be but it is unusable by DVDShrink or IMGBurn.
Any ideas?

He has a dual layer burner so he burned mor ethan will fit on a regular DVD. The main stuff I want is only about 4.9gb so it doesn't have to be shrunk too much, but for whatever reason it just isn't working.
Thanks for the link- I'll try that and see if it works.

laddyboy,
Is there a way to use the ISO I already have on my computer or do I have to redo it so that I have the files? I can't figure it out. It appears that I can drag and drop the ISO into the program but then the program stops responding.

If you're using TMPG, it will import titles directly from the original disk which is what I think you want to do in this case since Shrink is choking on the files. TMPG may also, I don't know. Start a new project and click the Add DVD Video button. The Add Files button will only add MPEG files as I recall. Once you've imported the title you can edit out anything you don't want and then have TMPG burn the disk.

Yes TMPG should show a VIDEO_TS folder. That is the folder to tell TMPG to add. It should then show a box with all the titles included on the disk, likely a single one in your case. Won't TMPG show this? Remember an ISO file is just a disk bit by bit storage representation of the folder file structure. Are you using the original DVD?

Here's what I've tried using TMPGEnc:
The project wizard comes up- I select NTSC and hit next where it asked for the vidoe file. I get to the video_ts folder but it won't use the whole folder, it opens and shows each seperate file. So I close the project wizard.
Same thing in the "start" screen. where it asks for the video source I can get the video_ts folder but it opens up and shows each seperate folder.
What am I doing wrong??

I'm not sure what's going on. I use version 1.6 and I'm assuming you're using version 2.0. Maybe that accounts for the difference. I'll try to download version 2 when I get a chance and have a look. There should be help or instructions embedded in the program but if they are anything like what was included in version 1.6, they won't help a lot. It might be a while until I can respond as I have to get to work.

Thanks for the help.
Take your time- I'm at work now as well and won't be back using my laptop until around 7 tonight. Only reason I'm even checking right now is this forum won't send emails to AOL addresses so I use my work account for the email notifiations.

I don't see a lot of difference between the two versions. Here's what I did.
Started TMPG Author 2.
Selected new project.
Selected Source wizard.
Selected DVD-Video.....
Navigated to DVD in drive.
Selected VIDEO_TS folder.
Delay as program constructed a list of titles.
List of titles was displayed.
I selected the first title.
TMPG imported clip and wrote file to hard drive.

I guess I downloaded the wrong thing- I have TMPGEnc and not Author 2. I'm downloading that now, maybe that's the problem. The thing I have now is version 2.524.and so on.
I'll get back to you.

OK, that was the problem. I'm all set noe. It's backing up the the Hard Drive as I type. Next question- the part I'm saving is 5.17G- (one) is there a way to chop out the first chapter and the last chapter since it's just pre-game and post game stuff? Also, How do I go about shrinking it- just use DVD Shrink?
Thanks

Once it imports the clip, just select Edit. Use the buttons for marking the start and end frame and cut to select what you want to chop out. Just dump a folder of video files out of TMPG. Then open that folder with Shrink and transcode down to a 4.3 DVD and burn.

Is it normal for it to be taking such a long time? It's been Analyzing for more than 20 minutes and the estimated time remaining is more than 11 hours!

No. I suspect it is having the same problem that DVD Shrink had. You might as well stop it.

I THINK it worked. It took about three hours for DVD Author to do it's thing, but DVD Shrink apperently worked as it encoded fine and said the burning was successful. Haven't checked it yet, but thanks for all you help.
