except the fact that you can remove it in a second and plug it into your pc. personally i think its a faster process for the games but that my oppinion.
tam2oo5: USB is faster when you want to move it around, but the amount of time you spend removing the HDD/installing games using an internal HDD is nowhere near as much as you spend waiting if you used an external one
donmuerto: Yep, internal usually refers to one connected to the network adaptor (because it sits INSIDE the PS2) and external refers to the USB HDD (because its OUTSIDE of the PS2)
I agree, go with a good internal drive. USB is just slower. You will not see a big increase in load time due to the speed of the USB connection like you will with an internal drive.
You would of course need HD Advance 3.0 instead of USB Extreme with an internall drive.
Or you can go all out and get a DMS4 Pro chip install which will do everything with the internal IDE hard drive you could want.
1. it will format the drive
2. it will load games from the disc onto your hard drive so there is never a need to remove it and install it in the PC to transfer a game.
3. it has a built in HD Loader program to load them so there is no need to load a disc, just to load the games on your hard drive.
4. it has an integrated cheat device to load games on the hard drive, or disc with cheats, no need to buy AR Max or Gameshark
5. no need to ever rebuild games, remove dummy files
6. no screen cut off with games from other regions
7. will play DVD9 (dual layer) games from either the disc or hard drive
8. has 48 bit HDD support which means it will support large hard drives.
Just a few key points for those who want to spend a little more to have the very best. :)
