Hi all.

Some really good info on this site, but it still got me nowhere with my problem:

I have this MaxPayne.bin file (+cue) and have been trying to get a working CD from that.

What I did is as follows:

1. I first installed ClonyXXL and Alcohol and mounted the BIN file and checked for protection version with ClonyXXL (Safedisk2)

2. I dismounted the BIN file and started Burning Wizard (with Alcohol). Browsed for the BIN-file

3. From the next page (options I guess, my version is Finnish) I chose disk type as "Safedisk 2" and the settings were set automaticly (writing method: RAW DAO, use buffer underrun CHECKED, don't close the last session UNCHECKED, bypass EFM-correction CHECKED, rectify sub-channel data UNCHECKED)

4. Then I burned the damn CD and after installing the game, it still asks for "the correct CD" to be inserted. Damn that's frustrating...

I also checked the image with CDmage and it should be OK, no errors found.

You people wiser than me can you help?? I can't use the cracked version included within the image, since my display adapter doesn't like the original version, and the patches won't of course work because I don't have a correct CD...

Thanks !

ps. I have brand new Lite-On LTR-48246S burner with the latest firmware so that shouldn't be a problem

Your Litey is a "2 sheep burner" (EFM encoding) which writes regular bit patterns correctly. burn the image again but this time DON'T enable "bypass efm error or the reading of sub-q channel data". The backup should play flawlessly in your Litey with NO emulation. The reading of sub-q channel data is needed for backing up SecuROM

Thanks a lot !!

Actually that info IS there and quite clearly also, but there's just so much info there that I couldn't remember it..:) I'll try a new burning tonight.

Btw, as I said there's a directory named "cracked" within the BIN-file (including the cracked .exe). What do you think, does that (original) maxpayne.exe investigate the size of the data in the CD, so should I remove that "cracked" dir from the BIN or does that have any affect on the result, wether the CD will work or not?

And one more thing: Is it possible to mount the BIN file so that it would work from the virtual CD? I tried with Alcohol but couldn't get it working.. The emulation choises are quite strange also.

Thanks again !

As long as the "crack" is in a seperate folder or compressed (WinZip, WinRar) then you should be good to go to burn. As I stated in my previous post, your Litey can backup Safedisc without emulation or the need of any "crack" (no cd). Burn the image and install from your Litey and don't replace the Max Payne exe with the "crack" exe (no cd patch). You should be able to play the backup just fine.
I've mounted bin& cue using Daemon Tools with no problems m8 and this is by far the best virtual dvd\cd-rom emulator available.

Thanx again dude.

I hate to say but it still didn't work... with "bypass EFM error" UNCHECKED. Damn this sucks...

What do you think? Is the BIN itself done somehow wrong? It's not done by me, I downloaded it from the web.

Also, if I had big enough RW-disk, should the burned CD also work from those or does the original EXE somehow recognize the RW disk? It sucks to waste a good CD-R...:)

Thanks and sorry that I'm such a pain in the ass with this.

ps. You can also mail me to: ttiihone@kolumbus.fi if you prefer.

Try burning to a 700 mb cdrw m8(unformatted).
I believe Max Payne is Safedisc 2.0.x cd protected but you can check by using a tool called ClonyXXL.

Hi again.

I borrowed an original copy of Max Payne from my friend, and I made and BIN + CUE image of it with Alcohol and guess what? The game works fine with just the image mounted!

So basicly the image I got at first place was busted. I guess some freak who doesn't know anything about imaging did that..

Anyway, thanks for valuable info and help!
